Premier <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/david-eby\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Eby<\/a> met with U.S. Ambassador to Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/pete-hoekstra\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pete Hoekstra<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Hoekstra was tight-lipped after the meeting, but said it was a good one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still smiling, so yeah,\u201d Hoekstra said. \u201cI think he is, too, so that\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eby did not speak after the meeting, but did speak to reporters before, saying he would be raising three specific issues: softwood lumber, the need for a stable relationship around Canada\u2019s free trade agreement with the U.S. and asking President Donald Trump and Congress to consider keeping permanent daylight saving time.<\/p>\n<p>Eby also said he expects to discuss the province\u2019s ban on U.S. liquor.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you'll never miss the day's top stories.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you&#8217;ll never miss the day&#8217;s top stories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m eternally hopeful that we\u2019re able to find some sort of path forward with the president and with the United States,\u201d Eby said.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re our closest neighbours. We cannot replace that trading market, even as we try to diversify, and we will, to other countries. We need to have good relations with the Americans.
