{"id":6513,"date":"2025-06-22T23:20:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T23:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/6513\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T23:20:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T23:20:15","slug":"extreme-heat-warning-takes-effect-in-nyc-100-degree-temps-expected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/6513\/","title":{"rendered":"Extreme heat warning takes effect in NYC, 100-degree temps expected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An extreme heat warning is now in effect in New York City, with temperatures <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/06\/19\/new-york-city-heat-some-triple-digits-humidity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected to top 100 degrees<\/a> in the days ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service has called an extreme heat warning across the five boroughs, starting early Sunday \u2014 just two days after the first day of summer \u2014 and lasting until at least 8 p.m. on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The forecast predicts \u201cdangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 107 expected,\u201d with the worst of the heat hitting in the afternoon Monday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Central Park <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/okx\/100degreedays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last had a 100-degree day<\/a> on July 18, 2012, and hasn\u2019t seen a triple-digit temperature in June since 1952.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExtreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities,\u201d the warning reads.<\/p>\n<p>The heat wave can be blamed on \u201ca strong bubble of high pressure,\u201d\u00a0 or a \u201cheat dome,\u201d expected to envelop much of the eastern U.S., according to the Weather Channel. That bubble prevents clouds from forming, meaning no rain, intense sunshine and wretched humidity.<\/p>\n<p>The city is making cooling centers available and their locations \u2014 along with tips to handle the heat \u2014 can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/nyc.gov\/beattheheat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nyc.gov\/beattheheat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city Parks Department\u2019s \u201cCool It!
