{"id":65193,"date":"2025-07-14T15:28:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T15:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/65193\/"},"modified":"2025-07-14T15:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T15:28:16","slug":"certain-aetna-health-insurance-plans-leaving-the-affordable-care-act-marketplace-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/65193\/","title":{"rendered":"Certain Aetna health insurance plans leaving the Affordable Care Act marketplace next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">(Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Starting next year, Aetna clients in Virginia and other states will no longer be able to purchase individual or family health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act marketplace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The ACA is a 15-year-old federal law that allows people who don\u2019t have employer-provided insurance to purchase their own through the ACA marketplace. Congress also created associated tax credits that have helped some offset those costs even further. Over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmas.virginia.gov\/data-reporting\/eligibility-enrollment\/medicaid-famis-pace-enrollment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:261,000 people;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">261,000 people<\/a> in Virginia have Aetna healthcare, according to the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aetna is under the CVS umbrella and has participated in the ACA marketplace. Recipients have received emails this summer alerting them of the forthcoming change and the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aetnacvshealth.com\/2026-plan-information.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:website;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">website <\/a>outlines it as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAs we considered plan options for the future, it became clear we would not be able to provide the same level of value we\u2019ve offered in prior years,\u201d the health insurer\u2019s website stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Both the online statement and a request for comment from CVS Health did not clarify what made it \u201cclear\u201d the company felt the need to withdraw, but the shifting federal health care policy landscape could be part of the equation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Congress has yet to renew ACA tax credits that further help people lower their premium payments and the recently-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/11\/aca-health-insurance-premiums-increase.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:did not;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">did not<\/a> extend the credits either.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\"\/>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Relatedly, the OBBB includes forthcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/partisan-disputes-boil-still-unclear-092528790.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:changes to hospital funding and Medicaid;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">changes to hospital funding and Medicaid <\/a>(another provision of ACA that helps insure pregnant people, children, those with disabilities and lower-income earners).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Republican-led megabill fielded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/medicaid-brink-congress-races-toward-200653281.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:opposition;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a> from Democratic and some Republican federal lawmakers but ultimately passed and was signed by President Donald Trump on July 4. Republican dominance in Congress also threatens the renewal of the ACA tax credits that help people purchase insurance in state marketplaces, which Democrats have championed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">An Aetna spokeswoman did not directly respond when asked if Congress\u2019 pending renewal or failure to renew ACA tax credits had anything to do with the decision. She did reiterate the same statement from the website that CVS remains \u201ccommitted to helping members make the most of their benefits in 2025.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">An email forwarded to The Mercury by a reader with Aetna insurance outlines how clients will need to shop for a new insurer when the 2026 enrollment period opens in the fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cYou will get more information and helpful guidance as open enrollment approaches,\u201d the Aetna letter reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aetna\u2019s recent communication to clients follows NPR reporting that Aetna would be withdrawing from the ACA marketplace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/05\/04\/nx-s1-5385009\/aetna-to-exit-health-insurance-exchange-leaving-millions-without-coverage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:back in May;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">back in May<\/a>. Since then, as Congress debated the OBBB, lawmakers and hospital professionals around the nation and in Virginia have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/hospital-associations-va-13-states-092935562.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:expressed concerns;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed concerns<\/a> about what shrinking health care coverage options might mean across all income brackets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAs uninsured rates climb, so too will health care costs for everyone,\u201d said U.S. Rep.
