{"id":651940,"date":"2026-03-13T05:20:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T05:20:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/651940\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T05:20:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T05:20:13","slug":"lewis-pullman-maya-hawke-in-romantic-comedy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/651940\/","title":{"rendered":"Lewis Pullman &#038; Maya Hawke In Romantic Comedy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs the romantic comedy continues to make a comeback, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/wishful-thinking\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wishful-thinking\" data-tag=\"wishful-thinking\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wishful Thinking<\/a> adds some magical chaos to the genre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMarking writer\/director <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/graham-parkes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_graham-parkes\" data-tag=\"graham-parkes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Graham Parkes<\/a> feature debut at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sxsw\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sxsw\" data-tag=\"sxsw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SXSW<\/a>, the film stars <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/lewis-pullman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lewis-pullman\" data-tag=\"lewis-pullman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lewis Pullman<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/maya-hawke\/\" id=\"auto-tag_maya-hawke\" data-tag=\"maya-hawke\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maya Hawke<\/a> as Charlie and Julia, a Portland, Oregon couple whose relationship is riddled with emotional highs and lows as they struggle to make their way back to each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAfter attending a couples seminar led by twin healers, the Tillies (both played by Kate Berlant), they discover that their relationship has a supernatural ability to influence the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAt the couple\u2019s best, their plants are thriving, Julia gets a promotion at work, Charlie\u2019s song charts on Spotify, and their crypto investment goes through the roof.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBut at their worst, he\u2019s getting canceled for allegedly being alt-right, her company is going under, his mom might have cancer, global sea levels are threatening entire populations\u2026 and Jon Hamm is on his death bed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith this discovery, they test the true reach of their relationship. But the more they try to make harmony happen, the less things go their way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPullman and Hawke incite emotional whiplash with their unique onscreen chemistry that works just as well when they\u2019re at each other throats as when they\u2019re steaming up the camera with a sex scene that feels like the world is relying on them to reach mutual climax.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe film is also blessed with some entertaining supporting performances, including by Berlant, who is twice as hilarious in her twin roles. Jake Shane also brings the laughs with an understated performance as Julia\u2019s coworker, who is also her biggest professional admirer, with very little chill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWhile the movie is brimming with humorous levity to offset the emotional arc of this complex relationship, there are exchanges that hint at a violent dynamic, as they note weed makes Charlie \u201cemotionally volatile.\u201d That dynamic is quickly clarified when Julia urges him to slap her during their experiments, only to quip after that she couldn\u2019t believe he would do that given the \u201chistory of violence against women in this country.\u201d Granted, she kneed him in the crotch moments before, so who am I to judge their scientific process?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBeautifully illustrated with a split screen of two perspectives of the same sunset, Wishful Thinking is ultimately a dreamy romantic comedy about the lengths people will go for the ones they love, as well as the realization that they need inner harmony to foster a harmonious relationship with others.
