The New York Mets<\/a> and the New York Yankees<\/a> sent more than 30 players to participate at the 2026 World Baseball Classic<\/a> (WBC). More than half of those representatives are still available for hardball action this weekend as the event moves to a single-elimination format to crown a single international\u00a0 champion on Tuesday night. Before the playoff-like atmosphere takes over the baseball world, here is a look at how New York-associated athletes have performed at the WBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n New York Mets \u2013 8 players remaining (of 18 players sent)<\/p>\n The Mets were among the teams with the most representatives at this year\u2019s tournament with the talent spread out among four of the eight remaining teams.\u00a0 Juan Soto<\/a> and Huascar Brazoban<\/a> will wear the Dominican Republic colors in Friday\u2019s Quarterfinal matchup against Korea on Friday night. Soto owns a .333 batting average on 5-of-20 hitting with two home runs (while also walking five times) over the opening pool play games. Brazoban has pitched 2.2 innings of clean baseball over his two appearances during the WBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n Team USA brought a Mets-flavor to the pitching staff with two hurlers: Clay Holmes<\/a> and Nolan McLean<\/a>. Holmes allowed one hit over three scoreless innings against Great Britain during his only appearance of the tournament McLean had a mixed out against Italy on Tuesday. The 24-year-old pitcher struck out the first inning on 11 pitches, but then he allowed two home runs and three earned runs over the next two innings to be saddled with Team USA\u2019s only loss of the pool play round.<\/p>\n Italy helped the United States to advance to the knockout round of the tournament following a blowout victory over Mexico on Wednesday night. Nick Morabito<\/a> went 1-for-2 in his at bats during that crucial game that punched the Italians ticket into the next round. Joe Jacques<\/a> is listed on Team Italy\u2019s roster but has not made an appearance at this year\u2019s event.\u00a0<\/p>\n Carlos Guzman<\/a> could suit up for Venezuela against Japan in the last matchup of the Quarterfinal stage (against Japan). The career minor leaguer has not made an appearance in pool play. Jared Young<\/a> appeared in one game for Team Canada with a 1-for-5 performance in his only action.\u00a0 <\/p>\n New York Yankees \u2013 8 players remaining (of 13 players sent)<\/p>\n The Yankees sent four players to represent the Dominican Republic at the 2026 WBC. Camilo Doval<\/a> has pitched two scoreless innings over two appearances, while Yerry De Los Santos<\/a> has not been called to action. Amed Rosario<\/a> has not picked up a hit in two plate appearances over two contests. Catcher Austin Wells<\/a> is 2-for-13 with a .182 batting average over three pool play contests.\u00a0<\/p>\n The United States welcomed three members of the Yankees to the team, including its biggest star in Aaron Judge<\/a>. The 33-year-old power hitter is hitting at a .250 batting average (4-for-16) with two home runs, five RBIs, and five walks hitting in the middle of the Team USA lineup. David Bednar<\/a> has been perfect out of the bullpen with two scoreless innings over two appearances in pool play. Tim Hill<\/a> is listed on Team USA\u2019s roster but did not appear in the opening round and was removed from the United States roster prior to the Quarterfinals contest against Team Canada.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fernando Cruz<\/a> appeared in a pair of contests for Puerto Rico during pool play. He finished with a 0.00 ERA after 1.1 innings of work at the WBC.<\/p>\n Win or Go Home for the \u201cElite Eight\u201d<\/p>\n Eight teams will be down to four squads by the time the calendar rolls around to Sunday, March 15, 2026. Tonight, the Dominican Republic<\/a> battles Korea<\/a> in the opening Quarterfinal contest at 6:30 pm ET and should be available on FS2. The United States<\/a> will renew the budding rivalry with Canada<\/a> at 8pm ET. That contest is expected to be available on FOX.\u00a0<\/p>\n Tomorrow afternoon, Puerto Rico<\/a> matches up against Italy<\/a> at 3 pm ET with the matchup scheduled to air on FS1. Tomorrow night, Venezuela<\/a> and Japan<\/a> will lock horns to claim the final spot in the Semifinals.\u00a0<\/p>\n The final four hardball squads will be whittled down to the last two teams on Sunday night (8 pm ET, currently on FS1) and Monday evening (8 pm ET, currently airing on FS1).
