\n\tBradley Cooper, who has been in talks to star opposite Margot Robbie<\/a> in the new \u201cOcean\u2019s 11\u201d prequel, is now also at the top of the list to write and direct the Warner Bros. movie. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe news comes after \u201cTwisters\u201d director Lee Isaac Chung recently exited the project, following Jay Roach, who was also once attached. Cooper signing on to helm the movie, produced by Robbie\u2019s LuckyChap, would keep it on track to shoot before the end of the year. The project would be Cooper\u2019s fourth feature as a director, following \u201cA Star Is Born,\u201d \u201cMaestro\u201d and last year\u2019s \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe story is expected to take place before the events of the 2001 casino heist comedy \u201cOcean\u2019s Eleven\u201d starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. Carrie Solomon penned a draft of the screenplay for the prequel, which is said to be set in 1960s Europe. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe original \u201cOcean\u2019s 11\u201d premiered in 1960, starring Rat Pack members Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford and Dean Martin. The Steven Soderbergh-directed \u201cOceans\u201d spawned two sequels (2004\u2019s \u201cOcean\u2019s Twelve\u201d and 2007\u2019s \u201cOcean\u2019s Thirteen\u201d), plus the 2018 \u201cOcean\u2019s Eight\u201d reboot with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna. Clooney also has a new \u201cOcean\u2019s\u201d movie<\/a> in the works, with Roberts, Damon, Pitt and Don Cheadle returning, which focuses on the group as aging criminals.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere was something about the idea that we\u2019re too old to do what we used to do, but we\u2019re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me,\u201d Clooney told Variety last year. \u201cThey\u2019ve lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cOcean\u2019s\u201d prequel is one of a few projects that LuckyChap has in the works at Warner Bros., where the production company inked a first-look deal following the $1.4 billion-grossing and Oscar-nominated \u201cBarbie.\u201d Last month, the companies debuted Emerald Fennell\u2019s take on the literary classic \u201cWuthering Heights\u201d<\/a>; next up is a reimagining of \u201cAttack of the Fifty Foot Woman,\u201d<\/a> with Tim Burton.<\/p>\n

\n\tPuck first reported details of Cooper\u2019s new role.
