THREE RIVERS, Mich. \u2014 Devastation is still strewn throughout Three Rivers after tornadoes ripped through the area last Friday. <\/p>\n
Residents’ homes are destroyed, and they’re looking for relief and assistance from anywhere. <\/p>\n
International disaster relief organization Samaritan’s Purse partnered with Riverside Church to provide that relief to those in Three Rivers and Union City, helping cut down trees and demolishing homes that can’t be salvaged. <\/p>\n
The church is providing meals for residents.<\/p>\n
Some members of Samaritan’s Purse made a 10-hour drive from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to volunteer upon hearing the news of the devastation.<\/p>\n
“We’ve been here since Saturday night, and we started with active volunteer teams Saturday and Sunday afternoon to be able to go and help this community, not just Three Rivers, but also over in Union City as well,” Alexis Jahncke, with Samaritan’s Purse, said.<\/p>\n
The group has sent out 200 people each day to assist in ravaged neighborhoods, helping search their property for any missing items alongside the physical labor many are doing. <\/p>\n
“Just sorting through the disaster, coming alongside these homeowners, just being with them in their time of need,” Jacob Rutz, with Samaritan’s Purse, said.<\/p>\n
Samaritan’s Purse will leave Three Rivers and Union City on Saturday, March 21, but the members hope people won’t stop helping each other in the community. <\/p>\n
