PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Flyers in the Valley soon won\u2019t be able to take Southwest Airlines to two major airports<\/p>\n
Officials said the airline company will not serve Washington, D.C.\u2019s Dulles International Airport and Chicago\u2019s O\u2019Hare International Airport starting June 4.<\/p>\n
Southwest had two direct daily flights to O\u2019Hare and one direct daily flight to Dulles from Phoenix.<\/p>\n
All Southwest flights booked after June 4 to and from those airports will be canceled and customers can get a refund through the company\u2019s website or the Southwest app.<\/p>\n
Employees at those two airports will have an opportunity to bid for open positions in the company, officials said.<\/p>\n
The airliner said it still has flights to those areas, as Chicago\u2019s Midway Airport had flights to more than 80 destinations, including 15 markets they serve from O\u2019Hare until June.<\/p>\n
Southwest said it\u2019ll serve the Washington, D.C. area with 271 flights to 79 nonstop destinations from Baltimore\u2019s Washington International and Washington\u2019s Reagan National airports.<\/p>\n
Southwest has had flights at Midway Airport for more than 40 years. But the company said operating at Chicago O\u2019Hare has been \u201cchallenging.\u201d<\/p>\n
