(Scott Strazzante\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-in-race-for-tallest-we\/193277648\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sears Tower\u2019s 23-year reign<\/a> as the world\u2019s tallest building apparently came to an end.<\/p>\n<p>Completed a month earlier than expected, steel spires were placed atop the twin <a href=\"https:\/\/skyscraper.org\/tallest-towers\/petronas-towers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Petronas Towers<\/a> in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that brought their uppermost point to be 33 feet higher than the Sears\u2019 roof.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weather records <\/strong>(from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/wrh\/climate?wfo=lot\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Weather Service, Chicago<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High temperature: <strong>81 degrees<\/strong> (2012)<\/li>\n<li>Low temperature: <strong>7 degrees<\/strong> (1993)<\/li>\n<li>Precipitation: <strong>1.62 inches<\/strong> (1944)<\/li>\n<li>Snowfall: <strong>8.4 inches<\/strong> (1904)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein spoke to the Standard Club in Chicago on March 14, 1933. (Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1933:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-einstein-tells-3-problem\/167656096\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Albert Einstein<\/a> visited Chicago on his 54th birthday.
