A woman walking her dog near the foothills of Monrovia was injured Saturday morning after encountering a bear, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The incident happened around 9:20 a.m., according to the Monrovia Police Department.<\/p>\n
Police said the woman was walking her dog when a bear approached her. During the encounter, the animal swiped its claw and struck the back of the woman\u2019s knee, causing injuries described as non-life-threatening.<\/p>\n
The woman was able to leave the area safely, and a nearby resident called 911, authorities said. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said her injuries were not considered serious and she is expected to recover.<\/p>\n
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been notified and is responding, police said.<\/p>\n
Authorities reminded residents that bears are wild animals that may be encountered in foothill neighborhoods. People who encounter a bear are advised to remain calm, avoid running and slowly back away while giving the animal plenty of space.<\/p>\n
