{"id":656983,"date":"2026-03-15T08:17:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-15T08:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/656983\/"},"modified":"2026-03-15T08:17:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T08:17:12","slug":"celtics-signing-max-shulga-to-standard-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/656983\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtics Signing Max Shulga To Standard Contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Celtics<\/strong> two-way player <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/shulgma01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-14_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Max Shulga<\/a><\/strong> will be promoted to a standard contract that runs through the end of next season, according to ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/2033001518731858188\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Sources tell <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/celtics\/2026\/03\/boston-celtics-signing-two-way-rookie-guard-to-main-roster.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Brian Robb of MassLive<\/a> that the deal will be non-guaranteed for 2026\/27. Shulga will earn a prorated portion of the rookie minimum for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Celtics have been using a 12-man roster over the past two weeks in their effort to remain below the luxury tax line. They\u2019re about to reach the season maximum of 28 days to be below the 14-man roster limit, so two additions have to be made by Sunday. A <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/03\/celtics-signing-charles-bassey-to-10-day-contract.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report<\/a> earlier today stated that free agent big man <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bassech01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-14_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Charles Bassey<\/a><\/strong> will be signed to a 10-day contract.<\/p>\n<p>Promoting Shulga is advantageous for financial reasons because his rookie minimum salary won\u2019t be subject to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/01\/hoops-rumors-glossary-tax-variance.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">tax variance<\/a>.\u201d His tax\/apron charge will be much smaller than the prorated two-year veteran minimum that would have been imposed if the Celtics had signed a free agent. Boston is projected to be able to add a 15th player on the final day of the regular season without going into tax territory.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old Ukrainian guard signed a two-way deal in July after being selected with the 57th pick in last year\u2019s draft.
