A group of fathers decided to buy a new vehicle for a beloved crossing guard after hers broke down.<\/p>\nDALLAS (KTVT) – A beloved crossing guard in Texas had to go through a lot to get to work after her car broke down.<\/p>\n
Then some local fathers got involved and decided to take matters into their own hands.<\/p>\n
Mornings are typically busy at Moss Haven Elementary in Richardson. <\/p>\n
Another constant is Trecia Crawford, known to everyone as Ms. Crawford.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s out here every morning, every afternoon again,\u201d Marcus Walther, a father in the school district, said. \u201cShe probably knows more parents out here on a first-name basis than a lot of other people.\u201d<\/p>\n
Crawford has a lot of fans within the Moss Haven Elementary Dads Club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re a group of dads that have all signed up to come together, better the students and the teachers\u2019 environment here at Moss Haven Elementary,\u201d Luke Wagner said.<\/p>\n
Walther said on most mornings, up to eight fathers attend.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re out here every morning to make sure everything\u2019s running smoothly with the crossing guard situation and working in tandem with Ms. Crawford,\u201d Wagner described.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes I have to tell them, you don\u2019t run in the crosswalk. And they know what Ms. Crawford says. \u2018Safety is first,\u2019\u201d Crawford added.<\/p>\n
Crawford is an essential part of the community. But about five months ago, her car broke down.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was Lyfting here. Then, when I ran out of money on the Lyft, I had to get on the bus,\u201d Crawford said. \u201cI had to do what I had to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
When the dads found out, they decided to do something about it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe knew that she needed a car, and it took a couple of months to find it and put it together,\u201d Adam Tharp said.<\/p>\n
The group raised thousands of dollars in just a couple of days, according to Walther.<\/p>\n
The dads of Moss Haven then gave Crawford her new car. It is a white Jeep that makes her smile.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an incredible gesture, but it\u2019s something that\u2019s done for a person who\u2019s more than the crossing guard.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou see them every morning, every afternoon. Whether it\u2019s a, \u2018Hi,\u2019 or a hug, or a fist bump, or, \u2018How\u2019s it going?\u2019 You start to get to know someone on more than just a casual basis,\u201d Walther said.<\/p>\n
The Dads Club also understands how expensive new cars can be. That\u2019s why they are helping her cover insurance and a few oil changes.<\/p>\n
