Philly AIDS Thrift<\/a> announced more than $400,000 in community grants to 33 nonprofit organizations providing HIV\/AIDS prevention, care and support services across Greater Philadelphia. The grants are funded through year-round donations of gently used items sold at the nonprofit\u2019s thrift store.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery year, it\u2019s incredibly rewarding to see how community support turns into real resources for organizations doing vital work across the Delaware Valley,\u201d said Michael Byrne, board president of Philly AIDS Thrift. \u201cWe\u2019re especially excited to be awarding our highest amount of grant funding ever, and that speaks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, donors, and customers who make this possible.\u201d<\/p>\n Since its founding in 2005, Philly AIDS Thrift has donated more than $5.6 million to community-based HIV\/AIDS services in the Philadelphia region. This year\u2019s grant funding \u2014 totaling $404,557 \u2014 marks the largest single distribution in the organization\u2019s history. Since launching its grant program in 2014, Philly AIDS Thrift has worked to deepen its community impact and support a broader network of local HIV\/AIDS service organizations.<\/p>\n Community organizations across Greater Philadelphia are seeing growing demand for services while facing tighter budgets. Philly AIDS Thrift\u2019s grant program has strived to provide consistent support and stability.<\/p>\n Among this year\u2019s grant recipients are ACT UP Philadelphia, Action Wellness, Drexel Medicine\u2019s Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice, MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance), Philadelphia FIGHT, Planned Parenthood Keystone, Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania and the William Way LGBT Community Center<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n
