While the project has spent years in development, facing both cancellation and a subsequent resurrection, we suddenly seem closer than ever to the game. This comes as current rumors point to a major re-reveal scheduled for later this year, with a potential release window set for 2027.

Expanding on the report broken by outlet Press Over, we have corroborated that an Argentinian studio has been co-developing the sequel since last year. However, the headline story here isn’t the sequel itself, but a potential upgrade to the original The Wolf Among Us mentioned in that same report. Based on new evidence we’ve come across, it appears that a current-gen port or remaster is indeed in the works at that partner studio.

Pictures Show Work Is Ongoing for a TWAU Port/Remaster

As mentioned, we have confirmed the identity of the partner studio currently collaborating with Telltale Games. While we initially intended to refrain from disclosing their name directly pending an official announcement, the community over at The Wolf Among Us subreddit also put the pieces together and correctly identified the co-developer as Argentinian developer Trick Studio. Known primarily for supporting other projects, Trick Studio previously collaborated with Telltale on The Expanse: A Telltale Series.

That said, our investigation uncovered a few images posted not too long ago that, while not of the highest quality, provide a look at the work happening inside the studio. These photos offer strong clues suggesting that the 2013 classic is receiving a technical overhaul. Among the evidence are two screenshots of familiar locations and a third image of the game’s menu, as shown in the comparisons below.

Note: We’ve included official screenshots from the original The Wolf Among Us release, while the new ones are imges that are blurred out, but are clearly referencing the same shots.

The first pic displays a development build of the first game, featuring the Business Office of the character Ichabod Crane. You will also see some yellow boxes surrounding large parts of the scenery, which appear to be development tools used to outline interactable objects in the environment. A second picture also appears to belong to the same environment, as we can see a close-up of Crane’s desk in a small window surrounded by various technical debug overlays and engine data.

To close, the third image features the same menu used in the original title. While there isn’t much else to glean from this particular shot, it serves as another strong piece of evidence that this project is connected to the first entry, rather than work from early prototyping for the sequel.

We would also do well to remember that Telltale has already shifted engines for the sequel, transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 and moving away from the proprietary Telltale engine used in the first game. This makes it even more unlikely that the developers would rely on old work to build the new game.

But the strongest piece of evidence that work is being done on the classic Telltale game isn’t in the pictures shown, but on the studio’s public website. Also discovered by the Reddit community, listings on the studio’s site (since removed but still available on Archive.org) showed two separate projects listed as far back as March 2025: one using a placeholder image for The Wolf Among Us 2, and another explicitly labeled as a port of the first game in its file name.

While we cannot completely rule out that this development is intended as a port for the Nintendo Switch 1/2, currently the only major platforms missing the original title (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S don’t have native ports, but the game is playabale via backwards compatibility), the details in Press Over’s recent report suggest we also shouldn’t overlook the possibility of a wider upgrade for modern consoles as a whole.

Of course, we must still wait for official confirmation from Telltale Games to know for certain if this port/remaster is a reality. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long for answers. If the sequel is indeed slated for 2027, we would have to see an announcement and release for such an overhaul sooner than that, to build momentum for the franchise before the highly anticipated second entry finally arrives.

Stay connected to MP1st and the latest news by following us on Bluesky, X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and Google News.

We recently received promising news regarding the long-awaited sequel to The Wolf Among Us.
