Six months ago, Miles Russell<\/a> became the first two-time Junior Players Champion<\/a> in the 18-year history of the American Junior Golf Association, held every Labor Day weekend at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.<\/p>\n

On March 14, the 17-year-old Jacksonville Beach resident established another Miles-tone: he’s the first two-time winner of the Sage Valley Invitational<\/a>, one of the most prestigious junior invitationals in the nation that began in 2011 at the Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, S.C.<\/p>\n

Russell shot a bogey-free 64 in the first round, then closed with a 67 that included two eagles, and at 15-under-par 273 won for the second year in a row by three shots over Tyler Watts of Huntsville, Ala.<\/p>\n

Miles Russell of Jacksonville Beach became the first players to win the Sage Valley Invitational twice at the Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, S.C.<\/p>\n

Mason Howell<\/a>, the defending U.S. Amateur champion, was third at 7-under 281. Tyler Mawhinney<\/a> of Fleming Island (74 in the final round) tied for ninth at 2-under 286.<\/p>\n

Russell led through 18 and 36 holes but a third-round 72 left him three shots behind Watts and one behind Howell entering the final round.<\/p>\n

But Russell regained the lead with an eagle at No. 4 and birdies at Nos. 8 and 10. Watts eventually posted a 73 and Howell a 76.<\/p>\n

Past winners at Sage Valley have been world No. 1-ranked Scottie Scheffler<\/a>, other PGA Tour winners Akshay Bhatia<\/a> and Austin Eckroat, and LIV Golf League members Joaquin Niemann and Tom McKibbin.<\/p>\n

Charlie Woods finishes last among 36 players<\/p>\n

Charlie Woods<\/a> struggled all week and finished last among the 36 boys in the field with a 26-over 314, 10 shots behind Tim Brohl of Germany. He played with Russell in the first round in a grouping that included two future Florida State players.<\/p>\n

Asterisk Talley of Fresno, Calif., shot 67 in the final round and won the girls division by three shots over Anna Iwanaga of Japan at 8-under 280.<\/p>\n
