{"id":659914,"date":"2026-03-16T15:05:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T15:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/659914\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T15:05:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T15:05:11","slug":"bronx-week-back-on-after-cancellation-borough-president-vanessa-gibson-announces-bronx-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/659914\/","title":{"rendered":"Bronx Week back on after cancellation, Borough President Vanessa Gibson announces \u2013 Bronx Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/bronxweek_gibsonandhero_2e9934.jpg\" class=\"crop-center wp-post-image\" alt=\"bronxweek_gibsonandhero_2e9934\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Bronx Week officially kicked off on Monday, May 6 with its Walk of Fame inductees and the first-ever Health Care Hero, Paloma Izquierdo Hernandez, president and CEO of Urban Health plan for more than 40 years, pictured above with Bronx Borough President, Vanessa Gibson.<\/p>\n<p>Photo ET Rodriguez<\/p>\n<p>Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson announced that Bronx Week will proceed this year, after cancelling the event on March 4, stating that her office would shift its focus in response to the city\u2019s budget deficit and city\u2019s broader fiscal issues.<\/p>\n<p>Gibson first publicly announced that Bronx Week would be resuming at the end of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bxtimes.com\/bronx-day-in-albany-returns-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bronx Day in Albany<\/a>, receiving cheers from the crowd of elected state officials, business leaders and nonprofits in attendance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, her office said that they had received overwhelming support from community leaders, partners, and stakeholders who stepped up to help relaunch the tradition.<\/p>\n<p>The Bronx has always been a borough defined by resilience, strength, and community,\u201d Gibson said.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTime and time again, Bronxites rise to the moment, supporting one another, and we are excited to celebrate together once again. When we say the Bronx leads, it means we lead together in partnership and on purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibson said in her original statement that the decision to pause Bronx Week was a \u201cdifficult decision\u201d and was \u201cnot made lightly.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Bronx Week is typically held in May and includes a week-long celebration showcasing Bronx businesses, culture and community businesses. The event is organized through the Bronx Borough President\u2019s Office in partnership with the Bronx Tourism Council and the Bronx Economic Development Corporation and is sponsored by outside partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know putting Bronx Week on pause was not an easy decision, but I am grateful for our Borough President\u2019s leadership in securing the necessary support to make this happen this year and for the overwhelming support from our communities,\u201d said Council member Althea Stevens in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement of the cancellation, several community leaders lamented the loss of the borough\u2019s annual tradition, including Council member Justin Sanchez released a statement calling on Bronx partners to help Bronx Week return this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery corner of our community came together to make this happen, and with their continued enthusiasm, support, and guidance, we will have the best celebration of our borough yet,\u201d said Sanchez in response to the Bronx Week\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<p>There is no set date for the new Bronx Week and the details are being finalized, according to the borough president\u2019s office.\n<\/p>\n<p>Reach Marina Samuel at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/msamuel@schnepsmedia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">msamuel@schnepsmedia.com<\/a>.
