{"id":66038,"date":"2025-07-14T23:14:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T23:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/66038\/"},"modified":"2025-07-14T23:14:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T23:14:10","slug":"board-of-federal-judges-blocks-trump-appointed-us-attorney-for-upstate-ny-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/66038\/","title":{"rendered":"Board of federal judges blocks Trump-appointed US attorney for upstate NY office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A board of federal judges rejected interim top prosecutor John Sarcone III\u2019s bid to lead the upstate New York US attorney\u2019s office permanently Monday \u2013 despite his claim last week he received the panel\u2019s approval.<\/p>\n<p>The group of US District Court judges announced they declined to appoint him US Attorney for the Northern District of New York after Sarcone was first appointed by the Department of Justice temporarily in March.<\/p>\n<p>The jurists did not explain their reasoning and Sarone\u2019s tenure could end this week. <\/p>\n<p>The setback for the Republican comes after he <a href=\"https:\/\/wnyt.com\/top-stories\/first-on-13-u-s-attorney-sarcone-says-his-appointment-will-be-extended\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told a local news<\/a> station Friday that the panel signed off on his appointment to lead the office. Clark<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Sarcone, Assistant US Attorney Tamara Thomson, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/politics\/cny\/2025\/07\/trumps-prosecutor-for-upstate-ny-says-judges-want-him-to-stay-on-the-job-judges-not-so-fast.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">claimed to Syracuse.com<\/a> that Associate Deputy General Attorney Aakash Singh signaled the permanent appointment was moving in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe stressed the importance of needing to have this handled ASAP and they acknowledged,\u201d Singh said of the judges, according to a readout of messages Thomson provided the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to continue communicating with them until it\u2019s done, but sounds like there aren\u2019t any issues and that it\u2019s moving according to plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A phone call to the US Attorney for the Northern District of New York was not returned Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Sarcone could still clinch a temporary reappointment from the Trump administration with a source briefed on the matter telling the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/capitol\/article\/federal-judges-decline-appoint-sarcone-u-s-20768822.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Times-Union<\/a> the Department of Justice is expected to take that action.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has not nominated Sarcone for the position that would require US Senate approval.<\/p>\n<p>An email to the Department of Justice was not immediately returned Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36536081\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/president-donald-trump-speaks-white-108163200.jpg\" alt=\"Trump could reappoint Sarcone to the position. \" class=\"wp-image-36536081\"  \/>Trump could reappoint Sarcone to the position.
