Chelsea Handler has unloaded on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife<\/a>, actress Cheryl Hines, claiming the Brentwood mansion she bought from them for $5.9 million in 2021 was a literal \u201ctoxic\u201d dump that she still hasn\u2019t been able to move into.<\/p>\n

The comedian revealed the messy saga<\/a> during a March 5 episode of her podcast, Dear Chelsea.<\/p>\n

\u201cI bought RFK Jr.\u2019s house in Los Angeles five years ago,\u201d Handler said. \u201cI still have not lived in this house, that\u2019s how f\u2013ed up this house was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea that this guy is in charge of the health of our country when he didn\u2019t even have a proper foundation at his house,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

The property \u2014 a 5-bedroom, 5,474-square-foot home on Mandeville Canyon Road in Brentwood\u2013sold in October 2021 for about $5.85 million Google Maps<\/p>\n

The property \u2014 a 5-bedroom, 5,474-square-foot home on Mandeville Canyon Road in Brentwood \u2014 sold in October 2021 for about $5.85 million and sits on nearly half an acre, according to real estate records. Built in 1937, the sprawling residence includes six bathrooms.<\/p>\n

Handler said the purchase was done privately through trusts, meaning the identities of both buyer and seller were shielded at the time. But once inspections began, Handler claims the property\u2019s problems quickly surfaced.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they opened up the house, they were like, \u2018This house is the most toxic environment,’\u201d she said. Contractors allegedly warned that Handler wouldn\u2019t be able to live in the house for years. \u201cI\u2019m not exaggerating any of this,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Handler said the problems weren\u2019t discovered until the final stretch of inspections \u2014 despite assurances the home had already been renovated. \u201cIn the last week of inspection, they came in,\u201d she said, adding she had previously been told \u201ceverything\u2019s been redone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the surprises was an outdoor storage structure on the property that inspectors told her was illegal. \u201cNow we have to remove his illegal bull\u2014t from my property,\u201d she added, referring to the RFK Jr.-era additions.<\/p>\n

Three months earlier, Kennedy \u2014 now serving as President Donald Trump\u2019s Health and Human Services secretary \u2014 and his wife, Hines, snapped up another home on the same street, dropping $6.6 million on the property.<\/p>\n

Handler also said that Hines left her a friendly note after the sale saying, \u201c\u2018Let us know if there\u2019s anything we can do for you, Chelsea,’\u201d Handler recalled. \u201cI\u2019m like, yeah, how about a f\u2013ing foundation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyway, I\u2019m not angry about it or anything,\u201d she quipped. \u201cI\u2019m totally over it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comedian admitted that buying a house without a foundation isn\u2019t the only property blunder she\u2019s made. In a previous move, Handler transformed her five-bedroom Bel Air home into a two-bedroom \u2014 all in an effort to keep visiting family from overstaying their welcome.<\/p>\n

The plan worked for privacy, but it tanked the property\u2019s value.<\/p>\n

It definitely made \u201cthe house less valuable,\u201d Handler confessed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And when it came time to sell? She had to undo the whole thing \u2014 shelling out to convert the place back to its original five-bedroom layout.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to turn the two bedrooms back into five bedrooms,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Handler sold her previous home, a Bel Air oasis for $10.3 million in 2021<\/a> before downsizing to the Brentwood \u201cdisaster.\u201d<\/p>\n
