Duke is expected to add Rob Ambrose to its coaching staff, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.<\/p>\n
Ambrose, 55, is best known for his 15-year run as Towson’s head coach from 2008-22. Ambrose won 76 games with the Tigers, winning a share of two Colonial Athletic Association championships and making three FCS playoff runs. His 2013 team reached the FCS National Championship, upending ninth-seeded Fordham, second-seeded Eastern Illinois, and third-seeded Eastern Washington before falling to North Dakota State for their third of five straight national championships. A former Towson wide receiver himself, Ambrose began coaching at his alma mater in 1993, then served as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator from 1997-00.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Beyond his time at Towson, Ambrose has spent time at the FBS level on both sides of the ball. He spent 2002-08 at Connecticut coaching quarterbacks and serving as offensive coordinator, and has spent the past three seasons as a defensive analyst on Mike Locksley’s Maryland staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Manny Diaz’s Blue Devils are looking to build upon a surprise run to the ACC championship in 2025. Duke won its last two regular season games before upsetting Virginia in overtime of the title game to win the program’s first conference title since 1989, and then held off Arizona State in the Sun Bowl. As a program, Duke is on a run of four consecutive 8-plus win seasons, and Diaz’s two seasons have seen Duke win 18 games, its most in a 2-year stretch from 2013-14.\u00a0<\/p>\n
