CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A state investigation is underway after more than a dozen coyotes were found dead along a hillside in western Hamilton County.<\/p>\n
For now, the Ohio Division of Wildlife classifies the case in Miami Township as an illegal litter dump. <\/p>\n
Resident Kyle Boreing said his son and dog first discovered the carcasses about a week ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dog started sniffing down through here, and he looked over and saw maybe two or three coyote carcasses,\u201d Boreing said.<\/p>\n
Boreing said the number of carcasses grew after the initial discovery, leading him to believe someone is actively dumping the animals.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe counted maybe 12 or 13 total,\u201d Boreing said.<\/p>\n
Some coyotes were shot<\/b><\/p>\n
The Ohio Division of Wildlife confirmed some of the coyotes were shot.<\/p>\n
State investigators said there is no evidence the animals were poisoned, despite speculation from area residents. However, they are still following up on leads.<\/p>\n
The animals appear to have been dumped on private property. <\/p>\n
The property owner said she was unaware the coyotes were there and did not give anyone permission to leave them.<\/p>\n
If a property owner had hunted and disposed of the animals on their own land, that would be legal under Ohio law. <\/p>\n
Boreing said the smell and sight of the carcasses affected the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not good, I mean, you can smell it just standing here. It doesn\u2019t smell good, it doesn\u2019t look good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the main question now is straightforward:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe question now is, number one, who\u2019s doing it, and can they please stop?\u201d <\/p>\n
