March 17 (Reuters) – Indian drugmakers Zydus Lifesciences and Lupin have signed a licensing and supply \u200cdeal on Tuesday to co\u2011market semaglutide injections in \u200cthe country ahead of the ingredient’s patent expiry.<\/p>\n
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 \u200breceptor agonist used to treat Type 2 Diabetes and, increasingly, for weight management by helping regulate blood sugar and appetite.<\/p>\n
The upcoming patent expiry for semaglutide has \u200ctriggered a rush among \u2060Indian drugmakers to develop cheaper versions to capture market share in the world’s most \u2060populous nation, which has the second-highest number of adults with diabetes after China.<\/p>\n
