The Italian-American pianist was performing in the lobby when Pfiester approached him to spark a conversation, he said.

During a different trip to Big Spring, Pfiester’s pickup truck broke down on the highway. He called friends in the area for help who then connected him with Harvy. The local mechanic, who was undocumented at the time, spoke about his immigration journey from Nicaragua.

The writer then reconnected with Enis, who pioneered the development of the Barnett Shale through his Fort Worth company Four Sevens Oil Company. The two have been friends for more than 40 years.

All three agreed to star in the film’s reimagining of their meetings, Pfiester said. Filming took place over 10 days in March and April of last year.
