Love is in the air \u2014 and apparently under the sea.<\/p>\n
Metallica frontman James Hetfield has taken romance to jaw-dropping depths, proposing to his glamorous girlfriend Adriana Gillett while swimming with whale sharks in a wild underwater stunt.<\/p>\n
The 62-year-old metal legend ditched candlelight for fins and face masks, holding up a handwritten sign beneath the waves that read: \u201cAdriana Gillett will you marry me?\u201d \u2014 all while surrounded by massive sea creatures.<\/p>\n

Talk about a proposal with bite.<\/p>\n
Gillett, 45, broke the happy news on Instagram<\/a>, sharing snaps of the couple suited up in snorkeling gear.<\/p>\n \u201cThe BEST birthday trip surprise,\u201d she gushed. \u201cSwimming with whale sharks on Friday the 13th with the most unique, special and romantic proposal a Pisces could ever imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cIn a sea full of fish, we caught each other. Thank you God for putting us together.\u201d<\/p>\n The engagement comes just four years after Hetfield split from his wife of 25 years, Francesca Tomasi<\/a>. <\/p>\n The former couple, who share three kids, Cali, Castor, and Marcella, officially called it quits in 2022, citing irreconcilable differences.<\/p>\n Hetfield proposed to Gillett under the sea with a sign that read: \u201cAdriana Gillett will you marry me?\u201d Metallica\/Instagram<\/p>\n Hetfield with his then-wife Francesca Tomasi and their kids on holiday in Milan, Italy in 2008. \u00a92008 RAMEY PHOTO 310-828-3445<\/p>\n Hetfield and Gillett started dating in 2023 \u2014 and things clearly moved fast from there.<\/p>\n The \u201cEnter Sandman\u201d rocker has long been candid about his personal struggles, previously admitting his marriage to Tomasi reached a crisis point due to his anger and alcohol issues<\/a>. <\/p>\n In a 2017 interview with Joe Rogan, he revealed that he hit rock bottom after being kicked out of his home.<\/p>\n \u201cLosing my family,\u00a0that was the thing that scared me so much,\u201d he said. \u201cThat was the bottom I hit, that my family is going to go away because of my behaviors that I brought home from the road.\u00a0I got kicked out of my house by my wife. I was living on my own somewhere. I did not want that.<\/p>\n Hetfield will be back on stage with Metallica later this year at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
