JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 Two years after a series of shootings rocked Jacksonville Beach\u2019s St. Patrick\u2019s Day celebrations, all three cases remain unsolved, with no arrests made, according to Jacksonville Beach Police.<\/p>\n

The violent incidents, which occurred during a busy night of holiday festivities, spring break, and the Players Championship tournament in nearby Ponte Vedra Beach, left one person dead and three injured.<\/p>\n

The first shooting erupted at an unauthorized gathering beneath the pier, where hundreds of teenagers and young adults had come together. Three people were injured in this incident. <\/p>\n

According to Cmdr. Tommy Crumley, this case was closed after prosecutors declined to pursue charges, citing self-defense rights and inability to determine who fired first.<\/p>\n

Within 30 minutes, two more shootings occurred. In a public parking lot in the 400 Block of 1st Street North, the second shooting left police with an identified suspect but not enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant. The third shooting, which was fatal, happened in the Sneaker\u2019s parking lot and remains under active investigation. <\/p>\n

Police have declined to release additional details about this case.<\/p>\n

In response to the 2024 incidents, the Jacksonville Beach Police Department implemented several changes, according to a report from Chief of Police Genepaul Smith. The department reached full staffing levels with approximately twelve experienced officers hired, added four additional sworn positions, acquired new equipment, and developed new strategies for managing large events.<\/p>\n

Local resident Kelly Norman, who celebrated her birthday just before the shootings in 2024, expressed ongoing concerns about safety in the area. \u201cIt kind of just seems like it\u2019s gotten a little bit worse,\u201d Norman said, particularly referencing concerns about large crowds and \u201cteen takeover\u201d incidents.<\/p>\n

The Jacksonville Beach Police Department continues to maintain enhanced security measures during major events and holidays to ensure public safety.<\/p>\n
