James Gunn confirmed that a beloved children’s film is one of his favorite. Apparently, the director is partial to Paddington 2.<\/a><\/p>\n

While filming a video for the French outlet Konbini<\/a>, Gunn listed off his favorite films and one of them was a beloved children’s classic.<\/strong> This might have come as a surprise to those who remember Gunn’s distinctly past as a Troma movie director,<\/a> but the director has changed course over the decades. One of his favorite movies, he shared in the video, was Paddington 2. <\/strong><\/p>\n

James Gunn says that the lowest-rated film he’s directed is also one of his favorites.<\/p>\n

“Paddington 2 is a classic film. It’s one of the greatest movies ever made<\/a><\/strong>,” Gunn said. “People think that I’m being ironic when I say that. I am not. I am absolutely telling the truth.”<\/p>\n

Gunn is far from alone in his Paddington 2 fan club. The movie is considered not just one of the best children’s films, but one of the best films of the past decade. It has an incredible 99% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/strong> – it was 100% until one negative review brought it down<\/a> – and critics rave about it. When it first came out, every aspect of it was praised, especially Hugh Grant’s performance as smarmy villain Phoenix Buchanan.<\/p>\n

AZCentral<\/a> wrote of the movie, \u201cPaddington 2 has something serious to say about making the world a better place through daily acts of kindness… <\/strong>More than just a movie, it\u2019s a necessary mood corrective, a temporary escape hatch from negativity. The world does indeed feel right in the company of this kind and polite little bear.” Empire<\/a> wrote, “Paddington 2 is every bit as enchanting as the first,<\/strong> perhaps even more so, but it feels arbitrary to pick a winner. The film is a pure delight, as sweet and sharp as, well, marmalade, really.”<\/p>\n

Like Superman, Paddington Bear is considered to be an immigrant, and both are known to don red-and-blue attire. Just as Paddington 2 had “something serious to say about making the world a better place through daily acts of kindness,” so does Superman. In an interview with the Times (via IGN<\/a>) Gunn said that Superman was “about kindness”<\/strong> and the main character was “a guy who is uniquely good<\/strong>.” <\/strong>He went on to say that the story was one of”an immigrant that came from other places<\/a> and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value<\/a> and is something we have lost.<\/strong>“That’s exactly what people got out of Paddington 2 as well.Paddington 2 is streaming now on Disney+.Source:Konbini<\/a><\/p>\n
