A whacked-out maniac beat down a beloved 71-year-old doorman who blocked him from trespassing in a Manhattan building \u2013 as the kindly worker still politely called him \u201csir\u201d as he pleaded for his life.<\/p>\n
Nicolaie Lica \u2013 known as \u201cGeorge\u201d by residents of his building on West 88th Street \u2013 told The Post he was working in the lobby of the building around midnight March 8 when Moshe Dardashty, 29, strolled in and said he wanted to visit a seventh-floor apartment.<\/p>\n
Lica \u2013 who had worked in the building since 1998 \u2013 initially directed Dardashty toward the elevator banks before he recognized him as a man that a coworker had warned him was not welcome on the grounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI ran after him. I met him in front of the elevator. I told him, \u2018Sir, I\u2019m very, very sorry. I cannot permit you to go up,\u2019\u201d Lica said in an interview from his home in the Bronx on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
That set off the unhinged Dardashty, who yelled at the doorman.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuddenly he jumped at me,\u201d Lica said. \u201cI don\u2019t know why. I tried to go away from him but I didn\u2019t know what to do. I couldn\u2019t get out of the building because he was in front of me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The victim said he tried to escape into the hallway at first \u2013 but then gave up and turned to face his attacker when he realized he couldn\u2019t get away.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe jumped at me, pushed me and I fell down,\u201d Lica said. \u201cHe picked up the metal ramp and threw it at me and it hit me on the left side of my face around my left eye and the bone under the eye broke, and the nose. After he threw the ramp he jumped on me. That\u2019s how I think he broke my vertebrae.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter he hit me so many times I said, \u2018Stop, sir, it\u2019s too much,\u2019\u201d the elderly victim recalled. \u201cI called for help, \u2018Help me, help me.\u2019 Nobody heard me. I called out to God, \u2018Stop him, please, he wants to kill me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Cops and prosecutors said Dardashty also beat Lica with a broom, but the victim said the attacker apparently attempted to break off a broom\u2019s metal stick \u2013 and abandoned the makeshift weapon when he failed.<\/p>\n
Although the victim\u2019s \u201cface was full of blood,\u201d he managed to call the cops before bystanders took the phone and spoke to police for him.<\/p>\n
The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai West, where he was treated and later released but he remains bedridden and battered.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t open my left eye,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m hoping in two, three days I can. I have pain in my side, arm and back. I have problems with three vertebrae on the right side and I can\u2019t pick up a glass of water with my right hand. I have to use my left hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lica\u2019s wife, Pauna Lica, 62, told The Post she is now her husband\u2019s constant caretaker, putting drops in his eye and giving him multiple medications.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomeone asked my husband how many punches he took,\u201d Pauna Lica said. \u201cHe said, \u2018I don\u2019t know, but I think it was 100.\u2019 The guy was strong, only 29 years old. Maybe he was on drugs or drunk, I don\u2019t know.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Dardashty, who lives just blocks from the scene, was arrested minutes after the beatdown and was charged with assault and attempted assault, according to a criminal complaint.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was arraigned the next day and ordered held on $50,000 bail, the DA\u2019s office said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since the brutal attack, one of the building\u2019s tenants of nearly a decade, Constantin Schoelkopf, launched a GoFundMe page to help cover Lica\u2019s medical care and other expenses.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a very kind and dedicated doorman who\u2019s the night watchman, so to speak,\u201d Schoelkopf\u00a0said. \u201cHe\u2019s very kind, doesn\u2019t speak English very well, but he\u2019s always doing something, cleaning up. He\u2019s very much there for the tenants.<\/p>\n

The battered doorman said he is thankful for the outpouring of support and care.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a difficult time right now,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I live with hope. Everybody from the building has been supportive.
