(Image credit: NASA\/Brandon Hancock)<\/p>\n<p id=\"9774a950-d8ea-4d45-83ac-a39a54596449\">This will be the second rollout for Artemis 2, which will launch four astronauts on a 10-day flight around <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/55-earths-moon-formation-composition-and-orbit.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the moon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"9774a950-d8ea-4d45-83ac-a39a54596449-1\">The first rollout happened <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-rolls-artemis-2-rocket-to-the-pad-ahead-of-historic-moon-launch\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-rolls-artemis-2-rocket-to-the-pad-ahead-of-historic-moon-launch\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-rolls-artemis-2-rocket-to-the-pad-ahead-of-historic-moon-launch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on Jan. 17<\/a>; two weeks later, the Artemis 2 team conducted a wet dress rehearsal (WDR), running the mission&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Space Launch System<\/a> (SLS) rocket and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/27824-orion-spacecraft.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/27824-orion-spacecraft.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/27824-orion-spacecraft.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orion<\/a> crew capsule through their paces on Pad 39B.<\/p>\n<p>However, a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-delays-artemis-2-moon-launch-to-march-after-encountering-issues-during-fueling-test\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-delays-artemis-2-moon-launch-to-march-after-encountering-issues-during-fueling-test\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-delays-artemis-2-moon-launch-to-march-after-encountering-issues-during-fueling-test\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">leak of liquid hydrogen propellant<\/a> ended that two-day-long test a bit early. Team members fixed the leak on the pad, swapping out some seals in the affected area. They then performed another WDR, which Artemis 2 completed on Feb. 19.<\/p>\n<p>That success kept the mission on target for a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/this-is-really-getting-real-nasas-artemis-2-moon-rocket-fueling-test-went-so-well-astronauts-could-launch-march-6\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/this-is-really-getting-real-nasas-artemis-2-moon-rocket-fueling-test-went-so-well-astronauts-could-launch-march-6\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/this-is-really-getting-real-nasas-artemis-2-moon-rocket-fueling-test-went-so-well-astronauts-could-launch-march-6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">planned March 6 launch<\/a>. But overnight from Feb. 20 to Feb. 21, the Artemis 2 team noticed a new problem: a helium-flow interruption in the SLS upper stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>Mission managers rolled the Artemis 2 stack back to the VAB to deal with that issue, fixing it <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-repairs-artemis-2-rocket-continues-eyeing-april-moon-launch\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-repairs-artemis-2-rocket-continues-eyeing-april-moon-launch\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/nasa-repairs-artemis-2-rocket-continues-eyeing-april-moon-launch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">earlier this month<\/a>. Now, everything is set for a second rollout ahead of a planned launch on April 1.<\/p>\n<p>There will be fewer hoops to jump through this time: NASA has said it doesn&#8217;t plan to conduct another WDR after Artemis 2 gets back to the pad.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a9640b02-617d-4072-b6b6-57e716301e28\">The Artemis 2 astronauts are NASA&#8217;s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen of the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22534-canadian-space-agency.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22534-canadian-space-agency.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/22534-canadian-space-agency.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Space Agency<\/a>. The quartet will be the first people to venture beyond <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">low Earth orbit<\/a> since the final <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/apollo-program-overview.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/apollo-program-overview.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/apollo-program-overview.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apollo<\/a> mission in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>If Artemis 2 cannot get off the ground on April 1, NASA has <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/why-are-the-launch-windows-for-nasas-artemis-2-moon-mission-so-short\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/why-are-the-launch-windows-for-nasas-artemis-2-moon-mission-so-short\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/artemis\/why-are-the-launch-windows-for-nasas-artemis-2-moon-mission-so-short\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">other opportunities<\/a> each day from April 2 to April 6, as well as on April 30.
