Last year, it was 164th.<\/p>\n<p>WalletHub determined the happiest cities in America based on 29 relevant metrics based on &#8220;positive-psychology research&#8221; across three main categories: emotional and physical wellbeing, income and employment, and community and environment. As with most WalletHub studies, it compared the 182 most populous U.S. cities.<\/p>\n<p>Fremont, California, claimed the top spot as the happiest city nationwide for another year. Bismarck, North Dakota, and Scottsdale, Arizona, respectfully, rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how WalletHub ranked San Antonio across the three key dimensions:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ee-ul\">\n<li>No. 93 \u2013 Income and employment<\/li>\n<li>No. 149 \u2013 Emotional and physical well-being<\/li>\n<li>No. 158 \u2013 Community and environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to being named one of the unhappiest U.S. cities, WalletHub also ranked San Antonio one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/city-life\/least-hard-working-city-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">least hardworking<\/a> cities in Texas. Ouch.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its low ranking, San Antonians have improved their city&#8217;s quality of life year after year, whether it&#8217;s through opening new <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/dirty-dough-opening-alamo-heights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">bakeries<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/adair-kitchen-opens-alamo-heights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">restaurants<\/a>, hosting major events like <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/entertainment\/la-semana-alegre-hemisfair-fiesta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fiesta<\/a>, or maintaining <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/city-life\/alamo-restoration-protective-enclosure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">historic sites<\/a> like the <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/city-life\/main-plaza-new-improvement-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Main Plaza<\/a> and the Alamo for locals and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s worth noting that dunking on the Alamo City brings its own kind of joy to locals, whether that&#8217;s making fun of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@amanda_is_done_\/video\/7606475615067327758?embed_source=121374463%2C121468991%2C121439635%2C121749182%2C121433650%2C121404359%2C121497414%2C122122240%2C121351166%2C121811500%2C121960941%2C122122244%2C122122243%2C122122242%2C121487028%2C121679410%2C122228427%2C121331973%2C120811592%2C120810756%2C121885509%3Bnull%3Bembed_blank&amp;refer=embed&amp;referer_url=www.mysanantonio.com%2Fnews%2Flocal%2Farticle%2Fsan-antonio-hotel-loop-1604-21360287.php&amp;referer_video_id=7606475615067327758\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">hotel views<\/a> near Loop 1604 or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DVsB1KPjWII\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">sketchy drivers<\/a>. We even have an anthem for the self-directed schadenfreude \u2014 rapper Phyllis Ochoa\u2019s viral hit \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sJKeknx_t5o&amp;rco=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">San Antonio, Where We Roll<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, San Antonio must be happier than other places, considering that people <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/real-estate\/uhaul-top-growth-metros-movers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">keep moving here<\/a>. San Antonio now boasts a population of more than 1.57 million residents, and the city finally <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonio.culturemap.com\/news\/city-life\/population-growth-us-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">surpassed Philadelphia<\/a> as the sixth-biggest U.S metro.<\/p>\n<p>Having a good job and a fun social life can qualify as factors that measure happiness, but WalletHub separately emphasized that making more money doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean &#8220;more&#8221; happiness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For decades, researchers have explored the science of happiness and identified several core factors, including mental well-being, physical health, strong social ties, job satisfaction, and financial stability,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;Still, income has its limits \u2014 studies show that earning more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.1011492107\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">$75,000 a year<\/a> does not lead to greater happiness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elsewhere in Texas<\/strong><strong><br \/><\/strong>The Dallas suburb Plano and its residents&#8217; happiness far outshines the rest of Texas, according to WalletHub. Plano ranked as the 16th happiest U.S. city, and the No. 1 happiest statewide.
