(WCSC) — A boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of the Lowcountry, but an end is in sight after early water tests yielded encouraging results, the City of Goose Creek said.

The first sample met all safety requirements, according to the public works department. A second sample was taken Thursday morning and is being processed, with results expected Friday morning.

If that sample also meets all safety requirements, the advisory will be lifted. The advisory will remain in place at least until then.

The advisory stems from a major water line break earlier this week, Santee Cooper said.

A contractor not working for Santee Cooper struck the line Monday, requiring the damaged portion to be completely replaced.

The line serves residents in Goose Creek, Summerville and parts of Berkeley and Dorchester Counties. Crews worked overnight and completed repairs around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Several Dorchester School District 2 schools are using bottled water for cooking and drinking while the advisory is in place.

The following schools are not affected, as they are served by Charleston Water:

Eagle Nest Elementary School

Fort Dorchester High School

Fort Dorchester Elementary School

Joseph R.
