MusicalWriters.com launches Artist-in-Residence and Writer-in-Residence programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Dallas-based MusicalWriters.com<\/a> announced the launch of two new national residency programs designed to support the development of new musical theatre: the MusicalWriters.com Artist-in-Residence and Writer-in-Residence programs.
For the inaugural 2026\u20132027 residency year, MusicalWriters.com has named New York\u2013based composer, lyricist, and performer Alyssa Payne<\/a> (she\/her) as its first Artist-in-Residence, alongside Elle G. Tyler<\/a> (she\/her) and Ash<\/a> (they\/she) as the organization\u2019s inaugural Writers-in-Residence.<\/p>\n

The Artist-in-Residence program supports writers who create new musical theater and who bring their work to life through performance, storytelling and community engagement. The Writer-in-Residence program recognizes writers whose current work reflects a strong artistic voice and a deep commitment to the craft of musical theatre writing. Through the residency, MusicalWriters.com partners with these writers to support the continued development of their work while connecting them with its network of producers, directors, dramaturgs, actors and fellow writers.<\/p>\n

All three residents will be featured at the 2026 Musical Writers Festival, July 23\u201326 in Frisco. Not only will their work be featured at the New Works Cabaret and New Musicals Spotlight performances, but they will also share their expertise through feedback workshops and masterclasses.<\/p>\n

Dallas Symphony Orchestra extends contract for Assistant Conductor <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Music Director Fabio Luisi (Louise W. & Edmund J. Kahn Music Directorship) and Ross Perot President & CEO Michelle Miller Burns announced on March 12 the extension of Shira Samuels-Shragg\u2019s contract as Assistant Conductor (Marena & Roger Gault Chair).<\/p>\n

\u201cI am delighted to continue working with Shira for the 2026\/27 season,\u201d said DSO Music Director Fabio Luisi. \u201cShe is a wonderful artistic partner, and I look forward to seeing the great things she will do in her career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Samuels-Shragg began her tenure as DSO\u2019s Assistant Conductor in the 2024\/25 concert season. She has led the DSO in Youth Concerts, the summer Parks Concerts and the 2025 New Year\u2019s Eve program. She also leads the Performance Prelude lectures, a presentation before each classical concert that gives audience members deeper insight into the music being performed.<\/p>\n

In the 2026\/27 season, Samuels-Shragg will lead the Performance Prelude lecture series through the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am thrilled to continue my work with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra,\u201d Samuels-Shragg said in the press release. \u201cI\u2019ve learned so much from Maestro Luisi, the incredible musicians of the orchestra, inspiring guest artists and our dedicated patrons. Texas Ballet Theater\u2019s next season revealed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) declared \u201ca year of daring premieres, timeless classics, and unforgettable artistry when the company dropped its 2026\/27 season announcement.\u201d The company announced its four performances for the new season that will be presented in both Dallas and Fort Worth. The new season begins in September. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis season feels like a beautiful continuation of the work we\u2019ve been building together,\u201d Artistic Director Tim O\u2019Keefe said in the announcement. \u201cI\u2019m incredibly proud of our dancers and excited to challenge them with choreography that stretches them stylistically\u2014from classical foundations to contemporary storytelling that pushes them into new artistic territory. We are a storytelling company at heart, and this season offers stories that are joyful, thought-provoking, dramatic, and comedic. My hope is that every audience member, whether they\u2019re drawn to bold contemporary works or beloved classics, finds something that speaks to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

TBT\u2019s 2026\/27 season includes:<\/p>\n

Sept. 18-20:\u00a0Casanova, pictured. Set against the opulence of 18th-century Venice, this visually stunning ballet blends Baroque grandeur with bold, cinematic movement. What emerges is not just a tale of seduction, but a portrait of a soul caught between indulgence and introspection. Performances held at the Winspear.<\/p>\n

Oct. 2-4:\u00a0Casanova. Performances held at the Bass.<\/p>\n

Nov. 27-Dec. 6:\u00a0The Nutcracker. This tradition allows Tchaikovsky\u2019s signature score and Ben Stevenson, O.B.E.\u2019s choreography awaken the holiday spirit. Performances held at the Winspear.<\/p>\n

Dec. 11-27:\u00a0The Nutcracker.\u00a0Performances held at the Bass.<\/p>\n

Feb. 19-21:\u00a0Unbound. Two world premieres and a crowd favorite \u2014 each celebrating the breadth and brilliance of contemporary dance.Performances held at the Wyly Theatre.<\/p>\n

Feb. 26-28:\u00a0Unbound. Performances held at the Bass.<\/p>\n

May 14-16:\u00a0Copp\u00e9lia. This comedy follows the spirited Swanhilda, her hapless sweetheart Franz, and the eccentric Dr. Copp\u00e9lius in an adventure brimming with wit, warmth, and classical charm. Performances held at the Winspear.<\/p>\n

May 21-23:\u00a0Copp\u00e9lia. Performances held at the Bass.<\/p>\n
