Houston Habitat for Humanity<\/a> launched a modular home pilot program with the groundbreaking of two homes in Houston\u2019s Fifth Ward.<\/p>\n

Builders will assemble modular, prefabricated construction elements on site at 1220 and 1224 Grove St. The cost-efficient technique yields faster construction timelines, according to a press release.<\/p>\n

The 1,600-square-foot homes will feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 118-square foot front porch. Once completed, one home will be sold to a Houston Habitat homebuyer, while the other will first serve as a temporary educational model.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese two homes represent a step forward in innovative housing and a strong commitment to the community we serve,\u201d said Allison Hay, CEO of Houston Habitat for Humanity. \u201cBy bringing modular homes to Houston, we hope to showcase their efficiency, affordability<\/a> and superior build quality.\u201d<\/p>\n

Grant funding for the project was provided by Bank of America<\/a> and CenterPoint Energy, which contributed a combined $350,000 to the program.
