{"id":66922,"date":"2025-07-16T10:07:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T10:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/66922\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T10:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T10:07:09","slug":"broadcast-viewing-hits-a-low-in-june-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/66922\/","title":{"rendered":"Broadcast Viewing Hits a Low in June 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBroadcast viewing nearly always falls off in June after the traditional TV season ends, but the summertime blues are particularly pronounced this year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFor the first time since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/nielsen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nielsen_1\" data-tag=\"nielsen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nielsen<\/a> began tracking TV use by platform four years ago \u2014 and probably the first time ever, considering broadcast\u2019s dominant place for much of television history \u2014\u00a0over-the-air networks accounted for less than 20 percent of viewing in June. The ratings service\u2019s monthly Gauge rankings show broadcast at 18.5 percent for the month, down from 20.1<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/streaming-beats-broadcast-cable-may-2025-tv-use-1236292476\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> percent in May<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTV use across all platforms grew by 3 percent in June compared to a month earlier, with increases among kids and teenagers driving most of that increase as summer breaks from school kicked in. People ages 6-17 spent 27 percent more time on TV screens in June than they did in May, with streaming accounting for two thirds of their viewing. Accordingly, streaming set another monthly high with 46 percent of all use and beat the combined total for broadcast (18.5 percent) and cable (23.4 percent) for a second straight month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNetflix saw the biggest bump in viewing, growing by 13.5 percent month-to-month on the strength of shows like Ginny &amp; Georgia \u2014\u00a0June\u2019s most streamed series with 9.9 billion minutes of viewing \u2014 new acquisitions Blindspot and Animal Kingdom and the final season of Squid Game, which premiered just before the end of Nielsen\u2019s June reporting period (which ran from May 26-June 29). The bump pushed Netflix\u2019s share of all TV use up to 8.3 percent, versus 7.5 percent in May. A new season of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/love-island-usa\/\" id=\"auto-tag_love-island-usa_1\" data-tag=\"love-island-usa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Love Island USA<\/a> also drove 13.4 percent more viewing to Peacock, which added 0.1 to its share of all TV use for the month.
