Jon Rahm has dropped an appeal against sanctions imposed by the DP World Tour for playing in conflicting LIV Golf events but has declined to pay his outstanding fines.<\/b><\/p>\n
Eight players were last month granted releases by the DP World Tour – formerly known as the European Tour – to participate in LIV Golf events this year.<\/p>\n
That allowed them to retain memberships and remain eligible for Ryder Cup selection.<\/p>\n
The waiver included an agreement to pay outstanding fines believed to be in the region of \u00a32.5m levied for playing in LIV events without DP World Tour permission, the withdrawal of all pending appeals and an acceptance to take part in stipulated DP World Tour tournaments.<\/p>\n
Rahm still owes the financial penalties but the Spaniard is reportedly, external<\/a> unwilling to pay them having said recently the DP World Tour is “extorting players”.<\/a><\/p>\n The 31-year-old’s stance could put his participation in next year’s Ryder Cup in Ireland in doubt having been part of the past four European squads.<\/p>\n
