{"id":67067,"date":"2025-07-16T11:20:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T11:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/67067\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T11:20:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T11:20:09","slug":"simon-pegg-film-angels-in-the-asylum-owes-creditors-5m-exclusive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/67067\/","title":{"rendered":"Simon Pegg Film &#8216;Angels In The Asylum&#8217;\u00a0Owes Creditors $5M (Exclusive)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>EXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/angels-in-the-asylum\/\" id=\"auto-tag_angels-in-the-asylum\" data-tag=\"angels-in-the-asylum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Angels in the Asylum<\/a>, the British indie film starring <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/simon-pegg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_simon-pegg\" data-tag=\"simon-pegg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Pegg<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/katherine-waterston\/\" id=\"auto-tag_katherine-waterston\" data-tag=\"katherine-waterston\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Katherine Waterston<\/a>, has left creditors out of pocket to the tune of \u00a33.7M ($5M) after halting filming six months ago, according to a financial filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/03\/simon-pegg-angels-in-the-asylum-halts-filming-crisis-1236350832\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/03\/simon-pegg-angels-in-the-asylum-halts-filming-crisis-1236350832\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">As revealed by Deadline earlier this year<\/a>, Angels in the Asylum\u00a0was mounted without its financing fully in place and had to shut down in February, 15 days into a month-long shoot.\u00a0The picture is housed at special purpose vehicle AITA Films Limited, with first-time feature director Rob Sorrenti serving as producer alongside Heather Greenwood, who co-produced\u00a0Gavin &amp; Stacey: The Finale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAITA Films Limited filed for administration in April, a process equivalent to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. Kallis Insolvency Practitioners, AITA Films\u2019 administrator, has now produced a report outlining the company\u2019s affairs and the amount owed to financiers, cast, crew, and suppliers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSorrenti and Greenwood have been approached for comment. They have previously apologized to angry crew, adding: \u201cIt was never what we could possibly have imagined when we started this journey.\u201d Pegg is an executive producer on Angels in the Asylum, though he has not invested in the film and has not been paid for his work to date.\u00a0The Crown\u00a0director Steven Daldry is also an executive producer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmong the major creditors are Brandhouse Global Limited, which provided \u00a3486,966 in interim financing after \u201canticipated funding from Parkland Pictures did not materialise,\u201d per the financial filing. Parkland CEO John Cairns has previously told Deadline that his company had no agreement to finance Angels in the Asylum beyond its work as a sales agent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCast members are owed at least \u00a3374,649, while \u201ctrade and expense\u201d creditors are out of pocket by \u00a31.39M, which likely includes studio spaces, including Versa and Twickenham Film Studios. Deadline has previously reported that crew members are owed at least \u00a3600,000 in wages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe administrator\u2019s report provided an upbeat update on the film securing financing to pay creditors and resume production. \u201cDiscussions with proposed funders is progressing well and an in-depth due diligence process is currently being undertaken by the funders and their lawyers,\u201d the report said. The film\u2019s set is in storage until September while the conversations continue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tShould financing be secured, \u201call creditors will be paid in full,\u201d the report added. Should the funding discussions break down, only \u201cpreferential\u201d creditors will receive what they are owed. These preferential creditors include \u00a341,242 in employee arrears and holiday, as well as HM Revenue &amp; Customs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tInspired by true events,\u00a0Angels in the Asylum\u00a0co-stars\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/minnie-driver\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnie Driver<\/a>, Lesley Nicol, Rose Williams,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/aurora-perrineau\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aurora Perrineau<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/alex-jennings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Jennings<\/a>. It centers on women who were forcibly confined in isolation at Surrey\u2019s Long Grove Asylum in the 1930s after being deemed to be typhoid carriers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBectu and Equity have supported members impacted by the hiatus. In a statement to Deadline, Bectu boss Philippa Childs said: \u201cFilm and TV workers have already faced an incredibly challenging few years and to be out of pocket will make things even difficult financially for lots of our members who\u2019ve lent their talents and expertise to this film.
