{"id":672569,"date":"2026-03-22T00:01:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-22T00:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/672569\/"},"modified":"2026-03-22T00:01:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-22T00:01:14","slug":"gloria-steinem-auctioning-items-from-her-personal-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/672569\/","title":{"rendered":"Gloria Steinem auctioning items from her personal collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>She\u2019s a woman helping women \u2014 fill their closets.<\/p>\n<p>Gloria Steinem is auctioning 40 pieces of clothing and accessories through NYC vintage shop <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/07\/us-news\/owner-of-carolyn-bessette-kennedys-fave-nyc-vintage-shop-shares-all\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">What Goes Around Comes Around<\/a> on March 27 via eBay Live \u2014 the first time she has even sold her personal belongings.<\/p>\n<p>The eclectic collection includes clothing, handbags, jewelry and accessories the famed feminist amassed during her trips across India and the US during her journalism career.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the sale are going towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloriasfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gloria\u2019s Foundation<\/a>, which works on \u201cadvancing gender equity and preserving her iconic Manhattan apartment, a historic hub of feminist activism and community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steinem, 91, told The Post why it\u2019s important that her <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/25\/gloria-steinem-says-she-will-put-up-nyc-abortion-seekers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">East 73rd Street apartment<\/a> remain a gathering space.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.79980469;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38845028\" width=\"472\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/gloria-steinems-auction-clothing-provided-124007971.jpg\" alt=\"Gloria Steinem seated on a green sofa, surrounded by decorative pillows, with a large framed print of a child reading next to an elephant in the background.\" class=\"wp-image-38845028\"  \/>Gloria Steinem hopes that her East 73rd Street apartment continues to be a gathering space. What Goes Around Comes Around<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYears ago, I saw a brownstone in London with a bronze plaque explaining that it had once been a space for women to organize for the vote. Since then, I\u2019ve hoped to dedicate my home as a space for women to have meetings and organize,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy living room became a space for women to share stories and organize starting in the 1960s, and I hope it can continue to be a safe space for diverse people to come together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steinem, who launched Ms. Magazine, the first publication to be owned and operated by women, is also asking that those who purchase her items tag photos of themselves in them on social media so she can see them getting a new life.<\/p>\n<p>Steinem, who graduated from Smith College in 1956, moved to New York in 1960 and began her career in New York as a freelance journalist.
