{"id":67423,"date":"2025-07-16T14:23:26","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T14:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/67423\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T14:23:26","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T14:23:26","slug":"trump-says-credible-epstein-files-should-be-released-amid-maga-revolt-donald-trump-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/67423\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump says \u2018credible\u2019 Epstein files should be released amid MAGA revolt | Donald Trump News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">US president opens door to releasing more information on accused sex trafficker amid outrage among his base.<\/p>\n<p>United States President Donald\u00a0Trump has expressed support for the release of\u00a0\u201ccredible\u201d files on accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein amid outrage among his\u00a0supporters over his administration\u2019s handling of the case.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said on Tuesday that US Attorney General Pam Bondi should disclose \u201cwhatever she thinks is credible\u201d about the government\u2019s investigations into Epstein as he sought to quash a growing backlash on the political right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s handled it very well, and it\u2019s going to be up to her,\u201d Trump, who last week encouraged supporters to move on from the case, told reporters at the White House in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever she thinks is credible, she should release.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also claimed the so-called Epstein films were \u201cmade up\u201d by former US Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden and former FBI director James Comey, despite his administration\u2019s role in publicising their existence.<\/p>\n<p>Trump later on Tuesday repeated his support for the release of \u201ccredible\u201d information, even as he expressed disbelief over the continuing fascination with the \u201csordid\u201d but \u201cboring\u201d case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCredible information \u2013 let them give it,\u201d he said. \u201cI would say anything that\u2019s credible, let them have it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement has been up in arms since the release of a law enforcement memo last week that concluded that Epstein died by suicide and there was no credible evidence that he possessed a \u201cclient list\u201d or blackmailed powerful figures.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein, who died in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges, has for years been the source of lurid theories and speculation, including that he was murdered and used sexual blackmail to compromise powerful figures on behalf of intelligence agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Theorising about Epstein has been particularly frenzied in MAGA circles, which campaigned for Trump\u2019s re-election in the belief he would expose the full extent of the late financier\u2019s crimes and those of his elite connections.<\/p>\n<p>Since the release of the joint US Department of Justice and FBI memo contradicting the most popular theories about Epstein, prominent MAGA followers have accused the Trump administration of breaking its promises and joining a cover-up aimed at protecting Epstein\u2019s associates, possibly including the president himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to make this very clear to those on the right, including the president himself, who are telling us to just drop the subject and move on,\u201d conservative commentator Matt Walsh said on his podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t drop it. We can\u2019t move on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mike Johnson, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday became the most powerful Trump ally yet to add to his voice to calls for greater transparency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should put everything out there and let the people decide,\u201d Johnson said in an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, adding that Bondi needed to \u201ccome forward and explain it to everybody\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"US president opens door to releasing more information on accused sex trafficker amid outrage among his base.
