{"id":67439,"date":"2025-07-16T14:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T14:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/67439\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T14:31:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T14:31:09","slug":"aztecs-edge-trey-white-kicker-gabe-plascencia-earn-special-honors-on-preseason-all-mw-team-san-diego-union-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/67439\/","title":{"rendered":"Aztecs edge Trey White, kicker Gabe Plascencia earn special honors on preseason all-MW team \u2013 San Diego Union-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAS VEGAS \u2014 San Diego State players did not dominated the 2025 preseason all-Mountain West football team, but the Aztecs were represented.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s more than they could be said last year, when no SDSU players were picked for the team for only the third time in more than two decades.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s preseason squad includes three Aztecs \u2014 junior edge Trey White, junior linebacker Tano Letuli and senior kicker Gabe Plascencia.<\/p>\n<p>More significantly, two of the three players received additional honors.<\/p>\n<p>White was picked as Defensive Player of the Year and Plascencia as Special Teams Player of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>White was a first-team all-MW selection last season after finishing among the nation\u2019s leaders with 12 1\/2 sacks. Plascencia was a second-team pick, leading the conference in field-goal percentage after making 13 of 14 attempts.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-man preseason team was released Wednesday during Mountain West media days at the Circa Resort &amp; Casino. Boise State, picked for the 15th straight year to finish first, dominated the team with 10 selections. No other school had more than three picks.<\/p>\n<p>Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen was picked as Offensive Player of the Year. Madsen led the Mountain West in passing yards (3,018) and touchdowns (23) last season and was second in passing efficiency (142.5). He also rushed for 221 yards and five touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>Madsen was joined by nine Broncos teammates. SDSU and San Jose State were next with three selections.
