{"id":674849,"date":"2026-03-23T00:31:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T00:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/674849\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T00:31:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T00:31:12","slug":"mts-launches-online-affordability-calculator-to-do-the-math-for-a-cheaper-commute-nbc-7-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/674849\/","title":{"rendered":"MTS launches online affordability calculator to do the math for a cheaper commute \u2013 NBC 7 San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As rising gas prices and inflation continue to drain household budgets, San Diego\u2019s Metropolitan Transit System has introduced a new online tool designed to help commuters determine whether switching to public transit could save them money.<\/p>\n<p>The MTS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdmts.com\/sites\/default\/files\/commute\/calculator.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.sdmts.com\/sites\/default\/files\/commute\/calculator.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Affordability Calculator<\/a> allows users to compare the cost of driving \u2014 including fuel, parking and other expenses \u2014 with the price of riding buses and trolleys. <\/p>\n<p>The tool comes at a critical time, as global tensions, including the war in Iran, have contributed to spikes in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cCommuters feel the pinch in their wallet and they want to get some relief,&#8221; Hector Zerme\u00f1o, an MTS public relations specialist told NBC 7. &#8220;They tend to gravitate towards mass transit which is the most cost efficient way to save money in many cases,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<p>By entering details such as commute distance and frequency, users can see a side-by-side comparison of potential savings. Nugent owns a car, but gas prices aren&#8217;t her only concern.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI go running in Pacific Beach a lot. I\u2019m scared because I don\u2019t know where I can park. I don\u2019t want to pay for  lots (or parking meters) because it adds up. I don\u2019t want to take Ubers either because that really adds up,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>For $5, adult passengers can travel round trip anywhere the system operates \u2014 a price many riders say is hard to beat.
