Experts\u00a0advise that when done \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/aishwarya-sakhuja-type-1-diabetes-diet-tweaks-routine-expert-9958967\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>mindfully<\/strong><\/a> and with balanced nutrition,\u201d\u00a0eating more than three meals can offer both benefits and drawbacks, depending on the individual\u2019s health status, activity level, and metabolic needs.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Bhavana P, chief dietitian, Gleneagles Hospital, Lakdi Ka Pul, <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/section\/cities\/hyderabad\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hyderabad<\/a>, said frequent meals may help stabilise blood sugar levels, particularly in individuals with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/fact-check-1-tablespoon-oil-500-calories-expert-9744823\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">diabetes<\/a><\/strong> or insulin sensitivity. Small, frequent meals (SFMs) are a dietary regimen characterised by multiple small eating episodes throughout the day. \u201cClinical nutrition guidelines recommend SFMs (eg, 6-10 meals) to patients experiencing common symptoms (eg, early satiety) and gastrointestinal-related symptoms,\u201d said Dr Bhavana.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>According to Dr Bhavana, smaller, more frequent meals can also improve satiety, curb overeating, and support steady <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/naga-chaitanya-love-food-entrepreneurship-cloud-kitchen-cooking-skills-9951880\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">energy levels<\/a><\/strong> throughout the day. \u201cThis approach is often beneficial for people with gastrointestinal issues like acid reflux, as it reduces the pressure on the digestive system compared to large, heavy meals,\u201d said Dr Bhavana.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>This approach will help prevent overeating during the most important meals, stressed Dr. Manjusha Agarwal, senior consultant in internal medicine at Gleneagles Hospital Parel, <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/section\/cities\/mumbai\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mumbai<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, constantly eating without allowing your body time to digest can lead to weight gain, especially if the meals are high in calories, sugars, or fats. \u201cFrequent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/reports-paneer-most-adulterated-food-item-alternatives-vegetarians-protein-requirements-experts-9956266\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eating<\/a><\/strong> may also disrupt your natural hunger cues and put added strain on your digestive system, and also cause problems like acidity, bloating, gas, and indigestion.
