Late-night hosts mocked the Department of Defense\u2019s contract with Elon Musk<\/a>\u2019s Grok AI, Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s White House decor and Maga infighting over the Epstein files.<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTrump got elected last year by making two promises: racism and bringing down inflation using racism,\u201d said Stephen Colbert<\/a> on Tuesday\u2019s Late Show. \u201cSo far, not so great\u201d as thanks in part to Trump\u2019s tariffs, inflation increased in June to 2.7%. And it could get worse, as Trump announced he would impose a 30% tariff on European goods starting in August.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cNo more European goods, so now people will have to settle for European bads,\u201d Colbert joked. \u201cI\u2019m looking at you, toilet with two buttons. Why? I\u2019m just pushing them both!\u201d<\/p>\n

The tariffs could raise prices on such items as French cheese, Italian leather goods, German electronics and Spanish pharmaceuticals. \u201cSpanish pharmaceuticals? But we can\u2019t lose Las Drogas!\u201d Colbert quipped.<\/p>\n

In other Washington news, Elon Musk \u201cmay officially be out of the White House, but he\u2019s still getting government contracts\u201d, as the defense department announced that it will begin using Grok, Musk\u2019s artificial intelligence chatbot. \u201cNo! You can\u2019t let evil AI into the department that controls our nukes,\u201d said Colbert. \u201cHaven\u2019t you seen the new Mission: Impossible? Once the entity is inside, the only way to prevent global annihilation is for Tom Cruise to take his shirt off inside a submarine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The department\u2019s decision is especially questionable because just last week, Grok went rogue on X, going on antisemitic rants and referring to itself as MechaHitler. \u201cWhich must have been particularly upsetting to Elon, because MechaHitler was going to be the name of his next kid,\u201d Colbert quipped.<\/p>\n

Grok is not the only AI partnership \u2013 the department has also signed deals with OpenAI, Google and Anthropic. \u201cThis is such a bad idea,\u201d said Colbert. \u201cSo far, the only thing AI has been really consistently good at is producing perfectly crispy homemade french fries with a fraction of the oil \u2013 wait, that\u2019s an air fryer. Still waiting on AI.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Show<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the Daily Show, guest host Jordan Klepper looked into Maga base uproar over Trump\u2019s refusal to release files on the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. \u201cWhy is Donald Trump refusing to release the Epstein files, and telling everyone to shut up and move on?\u201d he wondered.<\/p>\n

Klepper proposed the idea of Occam\u2019s razor \u2013 that the most simple explanation is probably the correct one. \u201cIn the case of Trump and the Epstein files, let\u2019s call our theory \u2018Occam\u2019s giant fucking machete\u2019,\u201d he said, given that Trump used to be friends with Epstein and his partner Ghislaine Maxwell. \u201cBut it\u2019s worth understanding just how close this friendship was,\u201d said Klepper before old footage of Trump with Epstein at a Mar-a-Lago party in the 90s; as they both ogle cheerleaders, Trump points out one who is \u201chot\u201d and then says something unintelligible to Epstein that makes him double over in laughter.<\/p>\n

Epstein himself said Trump was his closest friend for 10 years, and that Trump first slept with Melania on his plane, nicknamed the \u201cLolita Express\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext time you\u2019re on a flight with a crying baby, just think about how much worse it could be,\u201d Klepper joked.<\/p>\n

Worse, in a 2002 interview with New York Magazine, Trump said of Epstein: \u201cIt is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you know how creepy you have to be for Donald Trump to pick up on it?\u201d Klepper exclaimed. \u201cThat\u2019s a real \u2018your drunk friend taking your car keys from you\u2019 moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Klepper offered a parting message to Trump\u2019s inflamed base: \u201cTo all the Maga people who are so confused about why Trump doesn\u2019t want to release any of these files, maybe the answer has something to do with Occam\u2019s giant fucking machete.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> opened with a Donald Trump post to Truth Social over the weekend, in which the president claimed he had a \u201cPERFECT administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that\u2019s not why everyone is talking about it,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cThat\u2019s like saying \u2018everyone is watching Love Island because it\u2019s so free of controversy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While surveying flood damage in central Texas last week, Trump pointed out Dr Phil in the crowd, saying he was \u201clookin\u2019 good\u201d \u2013 \u201cbut it turned out it was just a caterpillar crawling across a ham\u201d, Meyers joked.<\/p>\n

Trump has also reportedly added more gold embellishments to the Oval Office. \u201cMore gold? Is he the president or the pharaoh?\u201d Meyers joked. \u201cI mean I guess it\u2019s a taste thing, but I don\u2019t think the Oval Office should look like the restroom at the Dubai Ritz Carlton.\u201d<\/p>\n

And while explaining some decoration changes to the cabinet room last week, Trump pointed out a portrait of Dwight D Eisenhower, and said the 34th president was \u201cunderrated\u201d.<\/p>\n
