At first, she didn\u2019t know what caused it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI thought something fell at first,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>R<\/b><b>EAD MORE: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/weather\/2026\/03\/23\/will-there-be-more-meteors-in-houston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Will there be more meteors in Houston?<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Moments later, her grandson made a startling discovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe came back into my room and said, \u2018Nonny, you\u2019ve got a hole in the ceiling.\u2019 I\u2019m like, what?\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">When she walked into her daughter\u2019s bedroom, she says she saw both the damage and something unusual on the floor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThen I see the rock on the floor. I\u2019m like, what is that?\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She called the fire department and a constable, who responded to the home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThe firefighter had it and said, \u2018This isn\u2019t a regular rock,\u2019 because it was so heavy,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">James said on Sunday morning, scientists and researchers flooded her home with fascination and offered their analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A professor who studies meteorites also visited and gave an initial assessment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe said that, from what he could see, it looked like a meteorite, but I needed to get it tested to verify what kind it was,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Scientists say events like this are rare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThere is an organization called the Meteoritical Society that records a database of all the world\u2019s meteorites, and they typically record about a dozen new meteorite falls each year,\u201d said Dr. Marc Fries, a scientist at Johnson Space Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Fries creates meteorite fall maps on NASA\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">That makes the chances of one hitting a home extremely low.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cYou don\u2019t get a very good chance of a fall anywhere in a given year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Even after traveling through space and burning through the atmosphere, meteorites can still hit with significant force.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt was probably moving several hundred miles an hour when it hit, cutting straight through and cleaving its way into the house,\u201d Dr. Fries said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">James says she\u2019s grateful no one was hurt. What started as fear has now turned into fascination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt was scary,\u201d James said. \u201cBut then it was kind of exciting.
