{"id":676653,"date":"2026-03-23T19:25:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T19:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/676653\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T19:25:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T19:25:15","slug":"gma-weatherman-sam-champion-undergoes-emergency-heart-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/676653\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;GMA&#8217; weatherman Sam Champion undergoes emergency heart surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cGood Morning America\u201d weatherman Sam Champion was hospitalized for emergency heart surgery. <\/p>\n<p>The 64-year-old revealed he underwent the procedure on Sunday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWMnZ14kc2z\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">sharing an Instagram photo<\/a> of himself sitting in a hospital bed and hooked up to machines.<\/p>\n<p>Champion began his post by thanking his doctors and \u201cwonderful team of nurses\u201d at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGMA\u201d weatherman Sam Champion underwent emergency heart surgery. samchampion\/instagram<\/p>\n<p>The 64-year-old said he got the procedure following results from a nuclear stress test.  samchampion\/instagram<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of you know I had a nuclear stress test last Thursday,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd we found some things that needed to be taken care of so today. I went in to the cardiac catheterization laboratory \u2026 and we took care of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Champion said he\u2019s doing \u201cwell\u201d and is \u201cexpected to make a full recovery\u201d following the surgery.<\/p>\n<p>He also shared a selfie from the hospital bed on his Instagram Stories, writing, \u201cAfter: a little work then back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Champion\u2019s husband of 14 years, Rubem Robierb,\u00a0commented on the post with a slew of stars and raised-hand emojis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love you, my baby,\u201d Champion wrote back to his partner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went in to the cardiac catheterization laboratory \u2026 and we took care of it,\u201d said Champion, who is pictured above at the Disney Advertising Upfronts in May 2025. Speedy recovery on the way!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/27\/entertainment\/al-roker-reveals-if-hes-retiring-from-today-on-30th-anniversary\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cToday\u201d meteorologist Al Roker <\/a>wrote, \u201cSam The Man. Glad you are on the mend, my friend,\u201d to which Champion responded, \u201cAl you\u2019re such a kind man \u2026 Thank you so much for calling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ABC 7 meteorologist Dani Beckstrom commented, \u201cI need to visit the cardiac care center after seeing this. X \/ @SamChampion<\/p>\n<p>Champion<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/18\/entertainment\/abc-weatherman-sam-champion-shares-cancer-diagnosis-live-on-air\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> also survived a bout with skin cancer<\/a> that he discussed on \u201cGMA\u201d in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>He told viewers he had an unusual mark on his face, which turned out to be nodular basal cell carcinoma, and underwent three rounds of surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the Upper East Side.<\/p>\n<p>The procedures left Champion with a scar under one of his eyes.<\/p>\n<p>He revealed his skin cancer diagnosis live on \u201cGMA\u201d in October 2024. ABC \/ GMA<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Champion told viewers to \u201cbe very vigilant\u201d about looking for unusual spots on your body. ABC \/ GMA<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that one day no one has to go through surgery to get rid of skin cancer, but, right now, we have to keep our eye on our skin, our hands on our skin, be very vigilant and notice any unusual spots, and if those spots start to change, immediately get care,\u201d Champion said. <\/p>\n<p>Champion also noted that he was previously diagnosed with skin cancer in his 20s, after too much time in the sun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I\u2019m not bringing you the weather, I love nothing more than being outside, but these days I wouldn\u2019t think about going outside without sunscreen,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t always the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cGood Morning America\u201d weatherman Sam Champion was hospitalized for emergency heart surgery.
