PHILADELPHIA<\/strong> – Mayor Cherelle Parker announced Monday a plan to increase Philadelphia\u2019s rideshare tax to $1 per trip, aiming to protect public school progress and prevent deep staffing cuts as the district faces a major funding shortfall.<\/p>\n Mayor Parker\u2019s plan to stabilize school funding <\/p>\n The proposed amendment would raise the rideshare tax from 20 cents to $1 per trip, with the increase applying to rideshare companies, not individual drivers.<\/p>\n If approved, the new tax would take effect Jan. 1, 2027, and is expected to bring in $24 million in the first year and $48 million annually after that.<\/p>\n What they’re saying:<\/p>\n “We have made real progress in our schools, and I am not going to allow us to lose ground.
