Dan Goldman traded barbs on Monday over their campaigns\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/02\/16\/lander-pulling-punches-goldman-redistricting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">conflicting proposals to limit the impact of big-money spending<\/a> by outside political special interest groups in their fierce Democratic campaign in the NY-10 House district.<\/p>\n<p>Lander started the squabble by calling on Goldman to sign what he called a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/dec\/10\/brad-lander-dan-goldman-new-york-congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cPeople\u2019s Pledge\u201d to reject attack ads<\/a> funded by outside super PACs, which are often bankrolled by murky billionaires and lobbyists like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC.<\/p>\n<p>The voluntary pledge, which Lander says was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\/2019\/07\/20dems-are-taking-money-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> initiated by Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2012<\/a>, calls on candidates\u2019 campaign to donate 50% of the cost of any ads spent by outside groups on its behalf to charity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNY-10 should not be for sale,\u201d said Lander, the former controller and mayoral candidate. \u201cI\u2019m challenging Dan Goldman to sign the People\u2019s Pledge and commit to leaving this race up to the people of this district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lander\u2019s campaign portrayed the effort as a way to prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jta.org\/2026\/02\/18\/ny\/dan-goldman-in-heated-ny-10-primary-defends-his-pro-israel-stance-as-consistent-with-his-progressive-values\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AIPAC-aligned groups from meddling<\/a> in the primary on behalf of Goldman, who is a strong supporter of the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<p>Goldman\u2019s campaign wasted no time <a href=\"https:\/\/forward.com\/fast-forward\/809680\/supreme-court-nyc-goldman-lander\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hitting back at Lander<\/a> for what it suggested was hypocritical grandstanding.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that Lander is actively seeking the backing of <a href=\"https:\/\/prospect.org\/2026\/02\/27\/brad-lander-building-united-progressive-front-congress-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">left-leaning groups like the Working Families Party and Indivisible<\/a>, which are harshly critical of Goldman.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Congressman Dan Goldman (right) talks with New York City Comptroller Brad Lander before speaking at a press conference outside the Jacob K. (Barry Williams \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe propose that both candidates sign a simple pledge to cease all negative messaging from the campaigns themselves as well as all associated organizations, and reject outside interference in the election entirely,\u201d said Simone Kanter, a Goldman campaign spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>Goldman also repeated his call for <a href=\"https:\/\/brooklyneagle.com\/372416\/goldman-challenges-lander-to-7-televised-debates-before-june-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">seven televised debates<\/a> between the two candidates. Lander has not committed to the debates.<\/p>\n<p>Lander is mounting what is considered to be a potent challenge from the left to Goldman in the June 23 primary for the Democratic nomination in the district spanning lower Manhattan and a swathe of brownstone Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/12\/10\/backed-by-mamdani-comptroller-brad-lander-kicks-off-campaign-against-nyc-congressman-dan-goldman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mayor Mamdani and several progressive leaders are backing Lander<\/a> but Goldman, a two-term incumbent, says he is running on a record of effective opposition to President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Some Democratic powerbrokers were hoping New York would<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/02\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-malliotakis-new-york.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> redraw its congressional districts<\/a> to combine Goldman\u2019s home turf in lower Manhattan with Rep. Nicole Malliotakis\u2019 Staten Island-based NY-11 district, a move that would have likely led Goldman to switch races.<\/p>\n<p>But the U.S. Supreme Court nixed that plan, putting Lander and Goldman back into a Democratic primary cage fight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brad Lander and Rep.
