After her death, however, he discovered that didn\u2019t happen and he wasn\u2019t given a reason why.<\/p>\n<p>The eviction notice came soon after. With the lease\u2019s expiration, city contracting requirements open that space up to public bidding, the mayor\u2019s office said in a statement to KTLA.<\/p>\n<p>An iconic donkey stand may soon have to go after a state court ruled the owners need to be evicted. Los Angeles Times via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Hernandez has been informed that the bidding process is open to the public,\u201d the office added.<\/p>\n<p>Potentially losing the stand is personally devastating for Hernandez, who has worked there since he was 13, his family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/save-george-the-burros-legacy-on-olvera-street?attribution_id=sl:955ff1d6-c058-4d86-a60b-557df734b87d&amp;lang=en_US&amp;ts=1774198193&amp;utm_campaign=man_ss_icons&amp;utm_content=amp20_control&amp;utm_medium=customer&amp;utm_source=copy_link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said in a GoFundMe hoping to win that bidding.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not asking for a handout \u2014 I\u2019m asking for support to help bid for our family\u2019s spot and preserve this small business, this family legacy, and this beloved Los Angeles landmark,\u201d the fundraiser stated. <\/p>\n<p>The family who owns the stand lost a legal battle with the city, which had served Richard Hernandez with an eviction notice.
