{"id":677349,"date":"2026-03-24T02:41:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T02:41:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/677349\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T02:41:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T02:41:18","slug":"mamdanis-only-nyc-budget-idea-is-wishing-for-all-the-cash-he-wants-to-spend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/677349\/","title":{"rendered":"Mamdani&#8217;s only NYC budget idea is wishing for all the cash he wants to spend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As alarm bells keep ringing about New York City\u2019s finances, Mayor Zohran Mamdani still insists the only answer is for someone to give him more money to spend.<\/p>\n<p>Two more bond-rating outfits \u2014 Fitch and Kroll \u2014 joined Moody\u2019s last Friday in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/20\/us-news\/two-more-top-bond-rating-firms-issue-dire-warning-for-nyc-over-mamdani-budget\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">declaring the city\u2019s outlook \u201cnegative\u201d<\/a>; the next step is a drop in Gotham\u2019s bond rating, which will push up borrowing costs.<\/p>\n<p>That prompted city Comptroller Mark Levine to<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/22\/us-news\/mamdanis-budget-balancing-gimmick-could-mean-next-year-is-even-worse-nyc-comptroller-levine\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> repeat his opposition<\/a> to Mamdani\u2019s plan to grab $1.2 billion from the city\u2019s \u201crainy day\u201d reserve; that cash is meant for an actual emergency, not to fund a new mayor\u2019s wish list.<\/p>\n<p>At a City Council hearing this month, Levine <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/11\/us-news\/nyc-needs-to-rein-in-runaway-spending-to-a-tune-of-6b-even-with-albany-bailout-comptroller\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> that city expenses are growing faster than revenues; he puts the budget gap above $7 billion \u2014 $2 billion more than Mamdani claimed in his January budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very simple.
