Osornio remains hospitalized with a broken femur but is expected to recover, his family told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/team\/6QGHF6GTPRHGJKAN365F26QGIM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/team\/6QGHF6GTPRHGJKAN365F26QGIM\/\">KPRC 2\u2019s Corley Peel.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A neighbor captured cell phone video moments after the crash as relatives and bystanders rushed to Osornio\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe ran, we saw him on the floor, and the guy who actually hit him was on the floor with him, asking if he was okay,\u201d said Javiar Romero, Osornio\u2019s cousin.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Romero said the driver was in a silver truck and blamed a malfunctioning school bus light for passing the stopped bus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe said that the bus didn\u2019t work, that the lights on the bus didn\u2019t work, that he didn\u2019t see them on. But it\u2019s just common sense\u2014you\u2019re on a main street. If there\u2019s a bus stopped in the road, there\u2019s a kid coming out. It\u2019s not like it\u2019s stopped there for no reason,\u201d Romero said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Romero added that Eric initially could not feel his feet and was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for broken bones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Eric\u2019s family and neighbors expressed concerns about safety in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KPRC 2 visited the stretch of Henry Road where the crash occurred and found no sidewalks, heavy traffic, and signs of local activity, including horse riders. The crew also spotted a single 30 mph speed limit sign positioned well away from the scene.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Aldine ISD said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. At this time, the driver has not been charged or cited. Police continue to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Eric\u2019s family is hoping for accountability and that drivers will be more mindful near school buses. \u201cIf there\u2019s a bus in front of you, you have to be safe. There are a lot of kids on that bus,\u201d Romero said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Aldine ISD sent KPRC 2 the following statement:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThis afternoon, a student from Avalos P-TECH School was struck by a passing vehicle on Henry Road while exiting a school bus. Emergency services, including the Aldine ISD Police Department, responded immediately to the scene and are currently investigating the situation. The student was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, with a parent following. The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative.
