{"id":678777,"date":"2026-03-24T17:09:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T17:09:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/678777\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T17:09:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T17:09:13","slug":"hbo-max-strikes-deal-with-ex-movistar-content-chief-domingo-corral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/678777\/","title":{"rendered":"HBO Max Strikes Deal With Ex-Movistar Content Chief Domingo Corral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/hbo-max\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hbo-max\" data-tag=\"hbo-max\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HBO Max<\/a> just unveiled an overall deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/domingo-corral\/\" id=\"auto-tag_domingo-corral\" data-tag=\"domingo-corral\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Domingo Corral<\/a>, the influential Spanish exec most recently at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/movistar-plus\/\" id=\"auto-tag_movistar-plus\" data-tag=\"movistar-plus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Movistar Plus+<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe first-look pact will see the streamer gaining \u201cexclusive television services in Spain\u201d from indie producer Corral, who is making something of a return to the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/warner-bros-discovery\/\" id=\"auto-tag_warner-bros-discovery\" data-tag=\"warner-bros-discovery\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Bros. Discovery<\/a> fold having worked at Turner for 15 years until 2014. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHis deal has already spawned a project, which is in development. The show will focus on the disappearance of petty criminal El Nani (aka Santiago Correla). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt is written and directed by Alberto Rodr\u00edguez alongside Rafael Cobos., who were behind The Anatomy of a Moment, which was a Corral commission and debuted at his former home Movistar Plus+ last year and will screen at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/series-mania\/\" id=\"auto-tag_series-mania\" data-tag=\"series-mania\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Series Mania<\/a> this week in France.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPer the synopsis: \u201cThe series about the disappearance of El Nani will be set against the backdrop of Spain in the early 1980s, as it transitions to democracy, a time where the country faces a surge of crimes and the highest rates of bank robberies in the world. To combat public fear, a police unit with broad powers is created \u2013 staffed by Francoist officers \u2013 and operates with near total impunity. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAfter a fatal robbery, a young small-time thief known as Nani is wrongfully arrested by the unit and soon disappears, becoming the first missing person in the new Spanish democracy. In this thrilling new series, Rodr\u00edguez and Cobos explore another era of Spanish history, bringing to screens the long fight for democracy and the everyday people caught in its wake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sarah-aubrey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sarah-aubrey\" data-tag=\"sarah-aubrey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Aubrey<\/a>, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, unveil the pact with Corral today at Series Mania, saying: \u201cWe are so happy to partner with Domingo Corral, whose remarkable body of work has helped bring contemporary Spanish storytelling to the world stage. Domingo has long been a champion of bold, distinctive voices and a trusted collaborator across the creative community. We are honored to support this next chapter of his globally renowned work, and we look forward to the meaningful stories that will emerge from this new endeavor at HBO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCorral said: today \u201cI am delighted to have found a partner with whom I can continue producing the series I have always believed in. HBO\u2019s commitment to quality, boldness, and originality has always inspired my approach to the art of storytelling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCorral is the former Head of Content at Movistar Plus+. His exit last year led to an outcry from the Spanish creative community, who lined up to support of his work and impact championing creative voices and against what they saw as a damaging change for the local production community. Javier Bardem, Pen\u00e9lope Cruz and Pedro Almod\u00f3var were among <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/05\/bardem-cruz-sign-open-letter-supporting-domingo-corral-1236389728\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the 144 who signed the open letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHe had joined Telef\u00f3nica\u2019s TV division in 2014 as Head of Content, and spearheaded a creative boom for the streamer. Among films he greenlit were upcoming Bardem pic The Beloved and La Bola Negra, plus the Academy Award-nominated Sir\u00e2t and San Sebastian best film winner Sundays. On the TV side, his commissions included The Anatomy of a Moment, Querer, La Mes\u00edas, Riot Police and Celeste.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPrior to Telef\u00f3nica, Corral was General Manager of Turner Iberia, overseeing the operations of channels including CNN, TCM, Boing, Cartoon Network, and TNT in Spain, which are all in the WBD family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn an interview with Deadline, Aubrey said: \u201cWhen I met him, I saw a kindred spirit in terms of someone who approaches their job as an executive with almost a \u2018producorial\u2019 approach. I approached him almost immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cHe is a good grower of special films and television series. In my experience as an executive and producer, I love finding people I work well with. It\u2019s very hard to make something good so when someone has the same temperament and ambition as you, you tend to hold on to that person, and I think that is Domingo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cIn Spain, people love to work with him, and his taste is exquisite.
