{"id":679304,"date":"2026-03-24T22:26:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T22:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/679304\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T22:26:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T22:26:14","slug":"pinetime-pro-is-an-open-source-smartwatch-with-an-oled-display-and-gps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/679304\/","title":{"rendered":"PineTime Pro is an open source smartwatch with an OLED display and GPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pine64 is a company that produces inexpensive single-board computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones designed to run open source software, usually aimed at developers and open source enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the current RAM shortage, the company has <a href=\"https:\/\/pine64.org\/2026\/03\/24\/march_2026_fosdem\/#dram-shortage-impact\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">paused production of some devices<\/a>, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/pine64.org\/devices\/pinephone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PinePhone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/pine64.org\/devices\/pinenote\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PineNote<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/pine64.org\/devices\/pinetab2\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PineTab2<\/a>. But the company is also introducing a\u00a0new device: The <a href=\"https:\/\/pine64.org\/2026\/03\/24\/march_2026_fosdem\/#pinetime-pro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>PineTime Pro<\/strong><\/a> smartwatch.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-198665\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/pinetime-pro-780x475.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"475\"  \/>Left: PineTime \/ Right: PineTime Pro (prototype)<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes nearly seven years after the company <a href=\"https:\/\/liliputing.com\/pinetime-is-a-25-smartwatch-companion-for-linux-smartphones-work-in-progress-from-pine64\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unveiled the original PineTime<\/a> and\u00a0nearly five years after the company <a href=\"https:\/\/liliputing.com\/infinitime-1-0-open-source-firmware-released-for-the-25-pinetime-smartwatch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">began selling it for $27<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While Pine64 hasn\u2019t revealed a price, release date, or detailed specs for the new model yet, it\u2019s expected to bring several improvements including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AMOLED display<\/li>\n<li>GPS support<\/li>\n<li>Additional sensors (including blood oxygen)<\/li>\n<li>Digital Crown with an extra button<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pine64 says the PineTime Pro will have \u201ca custom chip,\u201d but it\u2019s unclear\u00a0which system-on-a-chip the new watch will use.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it sounds like the new model should bring some nice usability and quality of life improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The original PineTime has a 1.3 inch, 240 x 240 pixel IPS capacitive touchscreen display with support for 65 thousand colors and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicsemi.com\/Products\/nRF52832\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nordic Semiconductor nRF52832<\/a> chip with an 64 MHz ARM Cortex-M4 CPU and support for Bluetooth 5.4 LE. The watch has 64KB of RAM, 512KB of flash storage, 4MB of SPI NOR storage, an accelerometer, heart rate sensor, vibration motor, and 170-180 mAh LiPo battery.
