{"id":679864,"date":"2026-03-25T03:59:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T03:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/679864\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T03:59:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T03:59:09","slug":"phoenix-federal-office-heads-15-million-tech-giant-settlement-over-covid-19-bias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/679864\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix federal office heads $15 million tech giant settlement over COVID-19 bias"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A Phoenix federal agency said Tuesday it led the way to a $15 million settlement against a giant tech company related to not taking the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/\">U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission<\/a> (EEOC) said in a news release that the \u201cleading global technology company with locations in 12 U.S. states specializing in electronics and computing products and services\u201d discriminated against employees by denying their COVID-19 vaccine exemption requests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The discrimination charges were filed with the EEOC\u2019s Phoenix District Office in December 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The federal agency said employees who did not want to take the vaccine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/religious-discrimination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/religious-discrimination\">because of their religious beliefs<\/a> or disabilities should have been able to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The company\u2019s alleged actions violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/disability-discrimination-and-employment-decisions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.eeoc.gov\/disability-discrimination-and-employment-decisions\">the Americans with Disabilities Act<\/a>, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThere was no pandemic exception to workers\u2019 civil rights and liberties,\u201d EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas said. \u201cTitle VII and the ADA require employers to provide reasonable accommodations for sincerely held religious beliefs and qualifying disabilities unless they can demonstrate undue hardship. When employers fail to meet that obligation, the Commission will act. This resolution makes clear that America\u2019s workplaces must remain open to employees of faith and to workers with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As part of the conciliation agreement, the company must pay the group of employees $15 million and review its policies to ensure they comply with Title VII and the ADA. The business also has to provide annual training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe are pleased we were able to reach a resolution of this matter.
